Nasty Virus I got. Watch out for this one.

I am in the process of knocking out this Virus I got on my other computer and it's a bad one. I had left my PC on all night which I typically do, never had a problem. Well today I go on and there was this "windows anti-virus" program running on my desktop. I thought wtf is this? So I tried clicking my Avira anti-virus and it won't even let me. This particular virus is mimicking an anti virus program and telling me that MY anti virus program is infected! It will not let me load anything, says everything is infected! Not only that but it keeps popping up and telling my my PC is highly infected and that I need to click "here" to fix...Ha right...f that. So...just a warning to those less computer savvy, don't ever click something like this. If it's not your actual anti virus program telling you there's an infection, it's a trick. The only way I've been able to work around this is to quickly hit "control+alt+delete" and end the program. I get about a 10 second time frame before it pops back up and prevents me from using any of my programs. I got my Avira running now and it's detected 6 infections so hopefully I can get it off of there.

I got that exact same one, I think it was about a year ago. I had to use like 3 different programs to get rid of all of it. It sucks.

Wow really? I am hoping Avira will knock it out. But I downloaded AVG and Spybot just in case. I don't even know where it came from. I don't ever go on any "bad" sites or anything. Crazy stuff. And this is actually the first Virus I have ever got, and I wasn't even doing anything to get it! lol. Lame!

I don't either, I read a little on it and people said that this particular one floats around on any kind of video really. http://www.egameaddiction.com/forums/index.php?topic=11762.0

Completely fixed it though, so not really complaining.

Hmm yea it appears you and I were hit by a "drive by infection" as they call it lol. But yea that is exactly what I have. My system scan is almost done and it found 2 more infections. After that I'm gonna run Spybot and then Ad-aware and hopefully that will be enough to prevent an entire windows reinstall. That computer is the family computer so there is a ton of stuff on it. ugh.

One of the old compys i had a while ago had this and it got it real quick. Didnt even have enough time to knock it out of my compy.

i got it again and i totally destroyed it and tried to send it back to the person who sent to me.
wonder if that actually happened...

Yeah it's almost like an advertisment. I got it once, and man was it annoying. There's another that infects forums with outside advertising. It will make the ads gianormous. I used to belong to a car-related forum that had it.

Have you tried "Trojan Hunter"?
Try a scan with "Malware Doctor"
Afterwards,use "Highjackthis"

It helped me.

P.S I highly recommend "COMODO".It's an extremely thorough system cleaner,and free. :D

Alright thanks, I'm gonna get a few of those programs since Spybot doesn't want to cooperate right now. But, knock on wood, everything seems to be back to normal. It was crazy, after I got rid of the virus with Avira I restarted my PC, no .exe's would open! I was like um ok how can I do anything now!? But luckily I was able to get on Firefox {every time I clicked an .exe it asked what program to use, so I chose to check internet for app's and that let me on firefox} and downloaded an .exe registry fix. Everything is gravy now :)

Also, use the command line (run program) to open msconfig.

If your startup menu is showing odd programs, uncheck them. Really, a proper windows installation should run with almost no startup programs, though a few (mostly hardware driver support programs) should be left on the start menu.

Oh yea, definitely! The only things I let run on start up are my anti virus and I think that is it actually.

Fr0dus is right about "Malware Bytes".I think he was the one who suggested that I try it.It won't let you down.At all.

Yea MalwareBytes is great, I use it now. However, the PC that got this virus is still seriously messed up and everything in the system got corrupted. So, I gotta reinstall windows but I just been putting it off.

Have considered trying "Trojan Hunter" then "Hijackthis" to find some of the hard to find files where Trojans might be hiding?

Well it's not that there is still a virus in there, it's that the initial virus completely corrupted my windows system. A fresh install is my only option at this point. But luckily I will be able to get all the data off of it with my other PC that I'm on now.

Watch out though. Some viruses like to jump to everything. Almost killed myself when my friend's PC got one and I left my XHD at his house and he used it. Almost destroyed my XHD and my Lappy.
