Neo CD Disc Read Error 0002

After checking through the FAQ on neogeocd.net, it appears that my Neo Geo CD is suffering from the worst possible read error, faulty hardware.

I've had the system for well over a year, so returns or exchanges are out of the question.

During gameplay, the drive will start clicking and the music will give-out. So it's my assumption that the drive motor is not maintaining 360 rpms (there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the laser-assembly). Is there any possible way to repair this or swap it out for a new drive motor?

I really don't want to have to drop another $160+ on a replacement console.

Its possible someone could fix it for you..but the price might be so high you'd be better off just buying a replacement. Is this a Top Loader we're talking about?

on top of that... I am not sure how they could even replace the drive motor.. you know?

Is that part readily available to fix a Neo CD?

It would have to be from a scrapped broken NGCD that still has a drive motor..which is unlikely you'll find one.

they couldn't substitute a different kind?

honestly, I am not sure about that... because I have not dealt with drive motors.

I suppose it might be possible..but thats just speculation on my part. We really need some repair guys here to answer these hehe

It a top-loader unit.

And yeah, I was wondering if it was possible to use a drive motor from a cheap disc-man (they're both single-speed motors).

Not that I'm much good with hardware, mind you.
