After checking through the FAQ on neogeocd.net, it appears that my Neo Geo CD is suffering from the worst possible read error, faulty hardware.
I've had the system for well over a year, so returns or exchanges are out of the question.
During gameplay, the drive will start clicking and the music will give-out. So it's my assumption that the drive motor is not maintaining 360 rpms (there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the laser-assembly). Is there any possible way to repair this or swap it out for a new drive motor?
I really don't want to have to drop another $160+ on a replacement console.
