New PS3 Rumors not good for used game retailers

Sony needs to take a page from the Sega playbook. Seriously. If they want to fight piracy, make the games for PS3 impossible to copy, simply by using larger than normal disks. Sega used bigger disks on the Dreamcast, making them impossible to copy onto standard disks... why can't Sony do something similar? If it requires paying a small fee to Sega to do, then pay up and do it, rather than alienate a large section of the gaming community!

Wait, when was this? I had plenty of copied games that played fine on my dreamcast. Was it only certain games?

As I understood it, they used bigger CD's that held around a gigabyte of data, as opposed to the standard 650-800 MB you can get on cds. I never owned a DC, so I don't know for sure. Regardless, not a bad idea, if they could pull it off.

This might be ploy directed to discredit Sony among gamers. They are being so tight mouthed about the PS3 idk how anyone knows that the PS3 will even do that.

Of course it's just a rumor, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. They kept their mouth's shut when they had that whole computer rootkit fiasco with their music CD's. One of the reasons why the PS3 is being delayed is because they are trying to figure out what kind of DRM they can put on the discs which can include this strategy.

eh, for rumors. I'm going to hunt down the person who did this and ask them why'd they'd write such a horrid lie. j/k

I get what you're saying Creep. :lol

I'm into conspiracies of the gaming kind and I think MS is trying to discredit Sony and its PS3 any way they can.

Seems to me like you care a little too much about a rumor.

It's not that I care a little too much. It's just that well, you can call me a bit of a Playstation/Sony fan. But oh well, just a rumor :D . But I really hope they don't implement it to the PS3 it would cause used game retailers a lot of money and people who can't afford games to borrow a friends game just to have fun.

Well Sony is KING in my book, BUT I can't believe that this rumor is true. There's no way that Sony would commit suicide like this. There has to be a way of making it so that pirated copies won't play on the system. Something that can be placed on the disc itself that can't be hacked, copied, or otherwise modified so that the machine knows it's legit and not pirated. I just can't believe that sony would go to this extreme. I've always said they should put the discs in psp like cases, like zip discs. It would hurt backwards compatability but would all but eliminate piracy.

Dude, have you not heard about the rootkit that they put in music CD's? First they claimed it wasn't there. Then they said that they'll fix it but in fact the patch that they gave people to download just made their computers worse. And even after all that, they had the audacity to say that people don't know what a rootkit is so why should they care. As much as I love the Playstation and most likelly will buy one, don't put it past Sony to do this.

I have to claim ignorance on that one. This is the first I'm hearing of this.

For me it's a love/hate relationship. I love them for the video game franchises but I hate them because of the stupid crap they pull.

If you're up for it you can read about it here.
