why didn't they include something better?

not to complain :lol I was just hoping for something like the Palm 500 stylus that had some weight to it (they are metal).

Are there nice replacements?

I believe that all of the DS styli (even third party ones) are plastic. It's supposed to be so that the screen doesn't get scratched as easily. I think there's even something in the manual that says you can use other styli as long as they have a "soft" tip, which I would guess means plastic, not metal.

BTW, styli is the plural of stylus, in case anyone was wondering.
 
Palm devices use styli that are of a metal shaft with two plastic ends that screw off, leaving one with a slender stick to reset the unit and the other end a screwdriver.

At least that's what was in the Palm devices my dad has.
 
yeah... its a metal shaft... and then a soft tip.... I want a metal shafted soft tipped DS stylus :lol
