Nintendo Gaining popularity?

That was just shock and disgust though. The fact that you could have sex with a hooker, kill her, and then take her money is controversial in a different way. Vietnam happened, it's taught in schools, it's something that is discussed in civilized conversation, it's the apple to GTA's orange, so to speak.

so... just to rehash an old topic... what do you all think now.

We are a little farther into the future... and I am curious of everyone's opinions :)

On which subject? We went into quite a lot of tangents.

As far as Nintendo gaining popularity, which was the original subject...I don't know. Maybe just because I'm a message board junkie, but I see a fair share of anti-Nintendo to go along with the Nintendo love.

Even Nintendo fans aren't very optomistic about this year since RE4 got pushed back. No one thinks any of Nintendo's 2004 games will be able to compete with Halo 2 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

On the other hand though, a LOT of people are excited about the DS.

I wouldn't really say that Nintendo is gaining popularity, just that it's not losing what popularity it already has.

I agree with that.

It hasn't had a good year like 2003. But I believe 2005 could be it's best year yet.
2003 is looking like domination IMO.

There are SOO many good titles coming out.

The end of this year is not looking bad either. Crap.... Metroid Prime 2?! thats looking to be superb.
Isn't anyone excited about that?

To be perfectly honest, I like the 2D Metroids more. Man, can you imagine if they made a pseudo-2D Metroid in the vein of Viewtiful Joe? That would be cool.

If I get MP2 it will at first be primarily for the multiplayer.

It would be cool (IF) in multiplayer Metroid Prime 2 ... if you could be ridley :lol

Or use a fictional one, like a "what if the USSR attacked the allies" sort of thing. Keep the time period/weapons/tactics the same, just make a it a little less controvertial.

You're gonna kick me for saying this. Technically, that wars been done once already. C&C Red Alert uses that theme of the Soviets VS Allies. Most of the weapons were the same, except for electral weapons, the Mutually Assure Destruction (M.A.D.) Tank, and maybe the Chronosphere, and the Iron Curtain.

Basicially the story behind it is that Germany never rose to power in WWII, and the USSR tried taking over the world, or something like that...

Haha, I do love a good kicking, but actually, I've followed C&C games almost from their inseption. Partly because they did exactly what I stated, and exactly what you pointed out. Freedom Fighters also introduced it's own fictional war for the backdrop of the game, which I did appreciate.

EGM's Hot Ten - Dec. 2004 issue

1. Legend of Zelda - GC
2. Halo 2 - XBOX
3. Jade Empire - XBOX
4. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - GC
5. Knights of the Old Republic II - XBOX
6. Final Fantasy XII - PS2
7. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - PS2
8. Resident Evil 4 - GC
9. Prince of Persia 2 - PS2/XB/GC
10. Kingdom Hearts II - PS2

3 exclusive GC titles in there. Not bad! And LoZ at #1 over Halo 2 is amazing, considering all the hype for Halo 2.

What are these Febuary games Neph? Remember that if they're sequels they suck right? And if they're sequels but they're different from the original then they're just a different game with the a top franchise name slapped on it to make sales.

I counted 15 Feb titles from GFaqs:

Dead to Rights 2
Nano Breaker
Sega Ages: Phantasy Star Trilogy
Nightmare before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge
Creature Conflict: Clan Wars
Death by Degrees
Outlaw Volleyball
Shadow of Rome
SLAI: Phantom Crash
Ys: The Ark of Napishtim
Champions: Return to Arms
NARC
Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner
Xenosaga: Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose
Tekken 5

Of those 15, I believe at least 7 of those are sequels.

So which nine games are supposed to be better than anything the Gamecube will have out in 2005?

Besides Xenosaga 2 and perhaps Ys, I don't see anything with the calibur of GC titles coming out in 2005 like Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, Fire Emblem, and Resident Evil 4. Maybe PS2 has a better February than GC, but I wouldn't give them the whole year yet.
