Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Sonic Solutions announced that Nintendo has chosen Sonic CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator as the Wii DVD playback solution. Nintendo plans to release a software based DVD Playback engine in 2nd half of 2007 to enable Wii to playback DVD videos.

Sony stole the motion senser? NINTENDO STOLE THE DVD!! lmaoooo  :lol

a whole lot more than the motion sensor   ;)

Yeah... Nintendo has to take one here and there :lol

SOOO... that means NO HARDWARE needs to be bought, correct?  If so... that's cool.  Some people were speculating a device had to be bought or something. I still say... leave the DVD off, I don't care for it. But they have to do some things to please the crowds. I mean... I just want a console to play games on.

As a gamer I already have a PS2, Xbox and a regular DVD player. I really don't see how this was in such high demand.
Other people wanted it... I am pretty sure of that. Do people really use their consoles to watch DVD's? I have mine set up on the Composite connection all the time, so I don't really have the need to watch a DVD on a console. besides... I'd be a little worried that I would wear out the console drive. I know, I am paranoid about that... but IMO console cd drives just don't hold up as well. I could be wrong though.

Exactly, since you don't use your console you use your regular DVD player. Im guessing the majority of the people do to.

Well I don't really like to go out into the main room to watch dvd's, so I just always used a console so I could watch movies in my room. That's just my personal preference, and I don't absolutely need my consoles to play dvd's, I can just go and steal the piece of junk dvd player from the living room and hook it up on the floor of my room or something. :lol

IMOP a video game system is for VIDEO GAMES, not to watch dvd's.  I thought thats what a dvd player was for?

Lol so there shouldn't be online play, or the ability to download, listen to music, play game demos, or chat with friends through a game system. They're specifically for games. :lol

Well, since the games come on DVDs, why should the console NOT play video DVDs?

But the console doesn't play DVD's. It still plays proprietary discs. The Xbox, PS2 etc. all do so they do play DVD's.

What Im trying to say is that the majority of gamers already either have a stand alone DVD player or a game system that can play them. So personally I don't see why this was in such high demand in the first place.

Cause it's routine now. Gamers are expecting stuff to be added for next gen. If they got rid of the dvd player on the 360, alot of fans would be upset. They'd get over it, but they'd be upset. The 360 is, to me, my roommate, and our best friend, all 3 of our dvd players as well.

for this point... they are adding a DVD player to the Wii... and that's the end of story :lol

So why anyone is making fun or complaining... I don't know. I guess they are screwed if they do and screwed if they don't.

The Wii has a DVD player... YAY... enjoy. :lol

Well you proved my point, your 360 is your DVD player. So it wouldn't be such a big deal if the Wii doesn't have that function.
