Well sony took it to court and lost. They have to pay Immersion corp. $90 million+ (the first company to come out with "rumble" technology) because sony didnt license their controllers and are supposedly asked to take off all the PS2's and games that have the "rumble" technology in them from store shelves. You can read more here.

HOLY CRAP.....

so it went through?

They can't sell consoles? The article said they MAY not be able to sell consoles.....

but DANG.... thats crazy. Guess you better watch those patents closely, eh?

†B†V† :hat

I dont really even care about the rumble feature, I never have it on when I play my games. But never selling consoles? NOOOO! This means that I might have to go into Nintendo! Sony please pull through!

Actually I believe it says that they can no longer sell any sony merchandise that has the rumble feature. They can still sell consoles but their controllers can no longer have rumble capabilities.

Maybe it's just me, but wasn't it April 1st around this time? :lol

Could be an april fool's joke, but these were posted a few days before. So if it is they did it early so they can really fool people.

No, it's legit. Sony's not supposed to be selling the stuff.

However, they are appealing, and as long as they are doing that, then they can still sell the PS2s and whatever else is in contention. This could go on for years.

Nintendo and MS were smart. Nintendo licensed it to begin with so Immersion never even went after them; and Microsoft settled in court, so Immersion dropped the suit against them.

yeah see.. got it from gamestop

Microsoft settled out of court with Immersion in 2003, avoiding messy legal proceedings for $26 million, which also got Microsoft a 10 percent stake in Immersion.

We all read it on the internet, so it has to be true. Logically. ;) :D

Of course you cant believe everything you read on the internet. Thats should be common sense. But a lot of these sources that have reported this are legit and reliable. It's even on Immersion's site. But if you still dont believe it, thats fine.

I work as a lawyer and can't allow myself to believe everything I hear or read. I need clear evidence. It's a bit like this Michalen Jackson trial going on right now. I have no idea if he's innocent or not, but that does not matter to me. I want him to have a fair trial and get his punishment or freedom based on the evidence. People lie, evidence don't. Simple as that.

Nice, maybe ill ask you for some legal advice sometime :p. Anyways you are right, evidence and facts are what people should go on, not assumptions and rumors. But I dont think that Immersion would put something like this on their site if it wasnt true. But again if you dont still believe then thats ok.
