Osaka Beat Downs: A Journey for My Memories (Doing a story)

Osaka Beat Downs: A Journey for My Memories

Chapter 1:That Woman, This Place, My Memories?

I awoke that cool Spring night, in a pool of my own blood, with a woman with hazel eyes and bright red hair staring right into me but, as soon as I begin to question anything she disappears from my sight as darkness begins to surround me, for all I know she could have been an illusion.

As I began to open up to the numbness of death a helpful citizen sees me and comes to my aid. He was about six foot seven inches, wearing a leather coat, and looked pretty well built. Still surveying the area Kain asks, "What's going on here? Are you ok?"

Without really taking notice to area around me, until just then, I began to notice that the walls on either side of me were damaged as if a sledgehammer was pounded against them, with tremendous force. After pondering what happened I said, "I don't know what happened but, I think I'm fine." I then went on to ask, "Did you see a woman with bright red hair leave here did you?"

"Ugh, I didn't see anyone like that but, are you sure you are ok, I think we should go to a healer", he said after he was done surveying the area.

"I don't need to go to a healer but, if you don't mind can you tell me where we are and if I wouldn't be so rude as to get your name?" I asked as I relaxed against the smoothest part of either wall I could find.

"Well, we're in Osaka right now and my name is Kain Kobayashi, I'm a fighter", he said with a smile on his face, "And what would be your name stranger?" he asked with the same smile.

"Osaka eh, we must be in Japan, no? And as to my name that is a question I would ask myself and I was hoping that you could help me on that one, it seems I can't remember anything before waking up." After feeling around my short pockets I felt a piece of paper. It was a picture of what appeared to be me and a woman, a light skinned brunette with sunglasses. "Do you have any idea who that may be?"

"Yea, we're in Japan, sadly I can't help you with that woman friend never seen her", he said as he began to frown.

"Eh, it's ok, I'll find out who it is." I stated as I tried to stand but, a sharp pain shot through my side. I looked down to my side and there it was, a wound that was a couple inches deep and at least 3 inches in length. "Looks like I'm not fine after all", I stated with a smirk.

"Here, let me take you to my place my grandmother can help you", he offered.

After much consideration I accepted. "Maybe this could be a new friendship", I chuckled, coughing up blood. "Hehe, looks to be a fun night."

"Maybe", he said as he was searching for something. He pulled something from the fence near the end of the alley. "Here, take this for support, it will be useful for ya", he said as he tossed a stick towards me. "My place isn't far from here".

As we started off I began to lose consciousness and then proceeded to pass out.

There she was. She was running. All I could see were lights and the bright red shine from her hair as she was running away. I tried to catch up but, it was no use she was too far away. Then darkness began to close in on me, I felt trapped, weak, useless, and above all hopeless. Then I heard a familiar voice calling for me to wake up...

"WAKE UP! WAKE UP!", Kain yelled as he shook me awake.

I woke in a cold sweat. "What happened? The last thing I remembered was coming up to a walkway." I asked with concern.

"You passed out when we reached my place", he replied, "glad you didn't decide to die on us just when we were gonna patch you up", he added as another person had entered the room. "This is my grandmother, just call her Nakamura-san. No one really knows her first name anyway."

"Nakamura? I thought you were Kobayashi?" I asked inquisitively.

"Ahh, I forgot to mention, I'm adopted", he chuckled.

"Now now Kain, what do we have here?" Nakamura-san asked.

"This is... well we don't know who this is, he doesn't know who he is, he's the one I told you about." Kain responded.

"Ahh, then let's get started then, please stay still will you", she commanded.

"Don't worry, this won't hurt a bit, she's been a healer since way back." Kain assured me.

And like that I passed out once again, hopefully this time won't be like the last.

This is the first chapter for a story that I am currently in the process of putting together, this chapter is basically the introduction to some of the main characters, well just our main character and his new found buddy Kain. In the next few chapters there is gonna be some suspense, lots of action, and even some mystery as well. I think this will be a 3-4 book story each with a different place and different arc. As you can take a guess from the title this one is dedicated to the main character's journey for his memories. The inspiration for this story comes from many things in my life like: past experiences, anime, music, movies, etc. Also, it is also in part to Kenny Palmer writing his own story as well, go check it out (just copy and past >.>):

I hope you enjoy the story so far and hopefully you keep tuned in for the other chapters to follow. And please comment on anything, I could use the help.

Well I hope you do continue it. Just one question, I dont think you stated what time period this takes place in, which is a little bit not stated. The only indication was the "picture". I think it is a bit too detailed wit the exact measurements for certain items given (ie the cut was 3 inches deep, he was six feet seven inches). And possibly reread the beginning lines, as I think the tense is a bit out of agreement among sentences. (please dont attack me for saying any of this :( Im just offering suggestions)

BUT ULTIMATELY beyond the editor comments: I think it is a fantastic story and I hope it continues through the entire 3-4 book arc, I am really curious as to how he got that wound, who this guy is, and who those people in the picture are.

Thanks for the comments.

First about the time period. I'm trying to be more descriptive with the characters while still having the reader think for themselves, kinda like I give a little and then take a little in process. And at first I was going to use this chapter as a prologue but, due to length I decided to skip over that and make it the first chapter.

I have to agree with you on the first couple lines, there is a bunch of grammatical errors in them.

Thanks for the input though.

Chapter Two: Blood Samples and Centerfolds

“Hmm, I wonder what happened here”, pondered a tall dark haired man in a blood-red cloak.

“Looks to be the aftermath of another one of those fights sir”, stated his younger female companion, wearing a lighter red cloak than his, to his right.

“You may be right”, agreed the man. “Take some evidence, I want some blood samples so we can at least find out whose blood this is”, he ordered her.

“Yes sir”, she responded as she went over to the pool of blood.

As she began collecting samples the man began to survey the surrounding walls. Putting his left palm up against the one wall while reaching into his cloak with his right hand, searching for his camera. As his hand came out of his cloak, his companion finished collecting the samples of blood. “All done sir”, she stated as she stood at attention. “Taking a picture sir, care to have me as the centerfold?” She added with a smirk.

“Very funny, it's quite sad that you'll never be seen in a picture”, he retorted. “I need to take a picture of this to show to the boss.”

“Witty as ever I see”, she responded.”Do you want me to clean this place up before the authorities manage to sense what has gone on?”

“Yes, that would be very useful, don't excerpt too much energy, don't want to be sensed, do you?”

“No sir.” She responded as she knelt down to her knees and began to chant: Ich besuche die Geister dieses Werks. Veröffentlichen Sie meine Siegel, um die beschädigte Erde zu reinigen, in der ich anwesend bin. Lassen Sie Umweltregeneration los!*

As soon as the chant was finished the area in which they stood returned to the original state in which it had been before the destruction had passed through.

“Now, let's get going, I've got a few things I want to discuss with the boss on what has happened tonight.” He stated as he began to leave his companion behind.

“Yes sir”, she responded. “Hey, wait up for me!”

And as mysterious as they were they disappeared in a dark fog.

As I began to stir I smelled the faint aroma of cinnamon. Once I got the strength to open my eyes I began to see a slew of colors around me. I seemed to be encased in a shell of some sorts. I reached for the shell and once I touched it, it disappeared.

I looked around where I was laying. It was a quaint little tea house, more old fashioned and traditional than the other areas I saw along the way here. As I began to take in the area I noticed that Kain and his grandmother were sitting to my left.

“Seems he's alright”, said the old woman. “Been passed out for quite some time there fellow, how you holding up?”

“I feel anymore pain if that's what you consider fine.” I responded to here question.

“I think that's good enough, just be glad Kain brought you to me in time, a few more minutes and you would have been in a coma.” She said frankly.

“Well I guess it could be worse, I just want some answers.” I stated as I began to arise from my bed-ridden state.

“Since you are in no condition to do work or fight at the moment I guess it would be useful to tell you a few things, would you like some tea while you ponder on your questions?” She said as she began to pour some tea. “It's a great Green Tea with a pinch of cinnamon, great for relaxing.”

I accepted the old woman's offer. “I have three questions. One, why is this place of yours not as modern as the other areas of Osaka. Two, when you said I'm in no condition to work or fight, what did you mean by fight?” I searched my pockets for the picture. “And lastly, do you know who this woman is in this picture and if not where can I find the information I need?” I handed her the picture.

She took a sip of her tea and then began to hold up a fist. She then stretched out her index finger indicating the number one. “First off, I like the peace and tranquil atmosphere this place gives me.” Now putting up her middle finger indicating the number two. “Secondly, there are two things in this city people do to get by, they either work for a living supporting the economy and their family or they fight, some fight for greed, revenge, power, land, honor, themselves, to find information, or for the thrill. Whichever you do is up to you.” Looking at the picture she put up her thumb indicating the number three. “And last of all, I have no idea who this person is but, this may be the only piece of information that you have right now as to who you are.”

As I soaked all the information in the old woman took another sip and she continued, “Now, I have some information for you that you may not know.”

Please, tell anything about myself, please”, I pleaded.

“When I healed your wound I found some information about you, first you aren't from this area, secondly, you have been in other battles before you came here, meaning that you were a fighter before you came here, and thirdly, you have an awkward bloodline.” She ranted.

“Awkward bloodline? What do you mean?” I questioned her.

“You my dear fellow, are three creatures in one, a demon, vampire, and human. You have the most unique blood I have been in contact with. And that woman you saw with the bright red hair was a vampire, from a pure bloodline.”

*The chant is in German and in an English translation it says: “I call upon the spirits of this plant. Release my seals to cleanse the damaged Earth in which I am present. Unleash environmental regeneration!”

Here is the second chapter of my story. I think it's building up quite nicely if you ask me. But, go ahead and comment on anything that you feel is out of place.

Oh my goodness a storyline with demons, now I am completely hooked!! I want more, I also love the unnamed people in the beginning section.

Chapter Three: Q&A

I was shocked there were so many thoughts running through my head after what Nakamura-san just told me. Where was I truly from, how is it possible to have the blood of three different creatures, and who the hell was that woman?

“Where? Bloodline, Vampire, Demons? Who?” Was all I could sputter out. I couldn't even get my thoughts out into complete sentences.

“You were the one who wanted to know what I knew, I just gave you what you wanted.” She said as she looked through the window on the other side of the room. “Was it a bit too much for you?”

“I think that's quite a lot old hag.” A tanned man in a business suit stated as he came into the room. “Telling someone that they are from another land, stating that he has the blood from three out of the four bloodlines and then saying the only lead he has to his past besides a picture is a pure-blooded vampire. I think that could turn a good man mad.”

“Is that so, nice of you to join us Raige, you seem rather insightful today.” Nakamura-san said as she sipped her tea. “Raige is the lead instructor at the fighting academy.”

“Thanks for the introduction hag.”

“You mentioned that there are four bloodlines, if I have three out of four bloodlines in me what is the fourth?” I asked with great curiosity.

“Glad for you to join us”, Raige stated. “There are four different bloodlines, each with their own unique abilities and different classes. Human, the weakest out of the four, is the bloodline that has the most determination and grit but, their defense and offense is always average, they usually fight with numbers. The Vampire bloodline is the most cunning out of the four, using any means necessary while still being cautious, they can use the darkness to their advantage but, are extremely weak in light. Demons are the second strongest out of the four, while most are dumb they have immense strength and their defense is off the charts, there is no real disadvantage of having the blood of a demon except demos rarely get along with other demons. And the last is the bloodline of the Deities, Gods if you so choose to call them. There isn't really much anything on this bloodline except there are some that believe that there are a select few that are connected to this bloodline.” As soon as Raige had completed the descriptions of each he took a cup of tea and took a long sip. “As for the woman, she could be anywhere right now.”

“So, I have the blood of three, how is this possible?” I asked as I tried to digest the information that Raige just told me. “How can I find the woman?”

“There are multiple ways to be fused with another creatures blood, the most prevalent way is if you were infused with the others blood in a hospital. Another is if you are mostly vampire you may have bitten another and had been infected. Either way is extremely dangerous for the one taking the blood, the safest out of all the ways is if one was to mate with the other. As for the woman, you're going to need to talk to the head of the nearest pure-blooded family house.” Taking another sip of tea, Raige began to talk again. “The closest one to Osaka would have to be the Yamazaki house.”

Starting to stand I ask my final question, “How do I get there?”

“Slow down boy, you won't get very far like that.” Raige remarked.

“What do you mean?”

“First you need to be considered high in the fighting rankings or be extremely wealthy to even be allowed access to the house.” Kain interrupted.

“Then I'll fight”, I stated raising my right fist.

“You'll need to find a few others to help in your endeavors. It's not a one man show you see.” Nakamura stated. “You'll need to find people to help build yourself a gang and then you will be able to proceed to take action. Without numbers you are useless in a fight.”

Raige stood up. “If you want to meet other fighters meet me tomorrow at the Tea House.”

Nakamura and Raige both took their leave. Kain got to his feet and before he left he left me with these last few words, “If you decide to fight, I won't join you, I'll be waiting at the end, for that is when you will next see me.” He left the room as I pondered on what he meant. Tomorrow is going to be a new experience.

This isn't my favorite chapter I've done so far and it sure isn't as long as I would like it to be but, it was needed to give some information, the reason for the title of this book and have a way to introduce some more characters. The next chapter is gunna be a good one. It's gunna have more from the mysterious group of strangers from the second chapter, some action, and more characters. I appreciate any comments on the story so far.

On a side note I did a search for Japanese surnames and it turns out that in the real Osaka the surname Nakamura is actually one of the highest in the area, I found it funny that I used that name by coincidence.

Hm this one seemed to carry a fast pace immediately from when Raige entered to the preordained participation in the tournament. If ever doing a perhaps re-edit, i would suggest maybe trying to expand the lines immedaitely following the discussion of the bloodline ro the participation in the beat down tournament (which wasnt explained?).

Ultimately though, I kinda love the discussion of the bloodline and such of the 4 types. I think it is really interesting and captivating and I cant wait for the next one.
