Hi Members!
I'm not sure if this topic applies anyone in the forum, but recently, after a lot of pressure from the public and other areas around where I live, the powers that be decided to remove the "VLT'S"(Lotto Machines)from a lot of places like the local "Pizza Delight" Restaurant and "Takeout".They feel it is more appropriate to have them in establishments such as Bars and Taverns.
I don't know very much about politics to discuss it intelligently, but it's my guess that they are just "Playing The Role" in hopes that the public will actually believe they give a #@$%^*&!#.Some people believe they are doing it to gain more control in the effort to cut down on the gravity of addiction due to the machines being located in so many other establishments outside the walls of taverns.
Personally,I think it's a bunch of crap.If the government had their way, there would be VLT'S in all of our backyards.Although I'm not proud of it,I've never developed an addiction to gambling, but I can relate with the feeling of addiction from the lifestyle I lived years ago.All I know is this,it wouldn't matter to me if my "Dealer" lived in England,I'd swim there there get my fix.By reducing the amount of machines in places other than licensed establishments might help a little. It would amaze you how driven an "Addict" can be to get the fix.
A fellow at the local Chess club where I play says that Casinos and Lotto machines ruin peoples lives, that may be,but so does alcohol and there is plenty of them stores around.People often say "Nobody is forcing the bottle to his lips or lighting that joint for him. It's a personal choice and they know they have a problem(Although most claim they don't...except me.I knew I had a problem,I just didn't care.
As for being an ex addict myself(People also say you will be an addict the rest of your life, even if you stay sober,it's a life long battle.)I can agree with part of that, but as far as addiction being a "Personal Choice"...Well all I can say is,no young child wakes up in the morning and says.."I'm going to be a "Junkie" when I grow up".Yes,you have to want to quit, and many addicts do,but very few can summon the strength to do it on their own,and do need help.If they could do it on their own, than they wouldn't be an addict to begin with.
What else can I say,I'm understand these things because of my personal experience, take it or leave it.
God Bless,
