My credit cards are processed through verisign.... which is why I got this, but what do you all make of this:
Dear Valued Customer,

Today we are announcing signing of a strategic alliance between
VeriSign and eBay to promote online commerce and security. Under
the terms of these agreements, PayPal, an eBay company, will
acquire the VeriSign Payments gateway business and VeriSign will
provide eBay and PayPal with a suite of security services,
including two-factor authentication technology to be used to help
protect buyers and sellers against online identity theft.

This acquisition is subject to regulatory approval, which most
likely will occur over the next 30 to 90 days. It is important to
note that VeriSign employees will also be transferring to PayPal
after the deal closes. Over the long term, we believe this deal
should provide great opportunities for you to expand your payment
acceptance and drive increased revenue to your business in a
cost-efficient manner. The combination of VeriSign's payments
business with PayPal's existing services looks to increase your
choices in the areas of payments processing, as well as access to
PayPal's existing customer base of over 78 million accounts around
the world.

Finally, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you
for your continued loyalty to our payments services. I will keep
you informed as we move further along with this transition process.
I do believe this is a win-win for everyone, especially you, our
valued customer.

Warmest Regards,

Trevor Healy
Vice President & General Manager
VeriSign Payment Services

Now, if paypal / Ebay owns Verisign, that would suck....
That is kind-of what I am getting from this article..

†B†V† :hat

From what I get out of it is that they are going to merge companies so all verisign accounts will be moved to paypal. I could be wrong though.

While it doesn't say outright that it's a merger, it could be. But then again there are companies that stay exclusive while persuing joint ventures together. I am thinking a joint venture on this one.

thats probably it it did say they where  going to use verisign for security and stuff unless I read it wrong

I know. But it's funnier this way. :D

Ok cool, but enough fun. As for the topic at hand, I dont see where the problem here lies. I can see that this might create a monopoly, but I dont see how it will really affect anything except make things more convenient. I have never used paypal though so I dont really have a valid opinion.

I like using Paypal. It's easy once you get through the annoying setup. But Verising is a merchant thing. So I don't really see a monopoly building here. One is a credit verification system, and the other is a payment system.
