Playing video games enhances decision-making.

Interesting article from Discovery! Sort of came to the same conclusion on my own, but I would have thought it wouldn't just be for action-packed games. However, it was a pretty small sample size they worked with on it.

That is a GREAT article.

You are right about the sample size though; it was rather small as many studies are.

The only question it does not answer is this, do those who play fast-paced FPS games develop already inherantly faster decision-making skills, or does the act of playing games raise a standard level of decision making to a new level? Is there a causal relationship?

It seems that they tried to address this question with the group that had previously not had much experience. But could they take the step further from simulation games to FPS games to tease out a causal relationship?

Altogether, it is a great project and great article!

I don't know if you can link "probabilistic inference" to "decision making." People who play action games may be better at processing visual and audio information in order to make a decision, but doing that in virtual reality and doing that in actual reality are very different. The experiment did not attempt to find out if those recognition skills transferred over into real life situations, so saying the more action games you play the better you get at recognizing what's important to notice in those kinds of games is kind of obvious.
