PS3 "Achievements"

PS3 games, starting this Holiday season, will have achievements on them. Honestly, the achievement system for the 360 is a great way to have fun while trying to build a higher score. And seeing how the PS3's online service is free, this can only be good news. The question now: Do you think this is too late, or will this help the PS3 sales?
 
I believe that's coming with "Home"...two different ways to show off what you've accomplished in a game. Since the trophy will be there for everyone to see, I believe it'll help out Sony's online fan base.
 
How would they retrograde for these achievements? In other words, would you be able to get achievements for launch games like Resistance somehow? Or would achievements only be available from a certain point on? That's what I'd be interested in knowing.

I'm not sure how the trophy system will work. I guess only time will allow us to know the full details

@Mai, I don't know if they'd be able to do that. Maybe release another version of the games with achievements in them, or downloading something online through Sony, and add achievements to said games. I'm just not sure yet on how they'll pull it off with their release games, if at all.
 
I love achievements. I don't like the blatant idea stealing though...

How are they doing their system? Points like the 360, or something different?

They're saying the achievements/points will be the same on each system for the same game.
