PSP Go is helping PSP 3000 sell better! Sad but true

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Thank you PSPGo

:lol

Despite word from a few European retailers that Sony's download-only handheld, the PSP Go, won't be sold in their stores, the company's UK product manager isn't afraid of poor sales. Even with no ability to read physical media (read as: nothing for retail to sell other than the console), and a £224.99 price point ($362.07 -- seriously), Sony's Claire Blackhouse says retailers are happy to have the new console in their stores. "We were very aware of concerns when we went into it and I actually expected a lot more negative responses than we actually got," Blackhouse told GamesIndustry.biz. "[The retailers] were really quite fine with it."

Furthermore, she says that retailers see the console launch this week as a "way of getting people into the store," that those not able to afford the new hardware will "aspire to it" and "might buy the PSP 3000 instead." She even riffs on a PSP-ified family, where "dad might buy the PSP Go but the kids might get PSP 3000s." Sony's 180° marketing shift we've seen recently for the PSP 3000 certainly helps to serve as proof of the company's belief in this strategy. Only time will tell if it'll work.

There's pros and cons for both. I'm still a bit torn. With the 3000, it won't fit comfortably in my pocket, you have to carry the games you want with you, and you have to buy memory sticks. With the GO, you can save yourself a trip to the store by simply downloading the game you want, it's a sleeker, smaller version, and you never have to worry about preordering a potentially rare game.

Sort-of mixed signal there. Its portable, but you are staying home to purchase the games. :lol Makes gamers seem more of a recluse. :lol :D :lol

I wonder if they will make it so you can download a game, like if, your are at a Starbucks?

on the flip side though, you can't trade in games and you don't have a hard copy of the game to trade with someone else (i trade games with my friends quite a lot) plus, no pre-order bonuses, and since i lack a credit card i guess i'll have to go to the store to buy point cards or whatever so the trip is not saved. sure the GO can be rather convenient for some people but it's completely useless for me.

True, however I don't remember the last time a pre-order bonus was something I really wanted. And if you can game-share with the PSP GO like you can with the PS3, then your worries about trading games with others will be laid to rest.

not really... to me it keeps being much more simple to simple *grabs game, hands over* that's it, no need to have both consoles at the same time and no need to do something other than simple human contact.

i don't know i don't like the whole idea of digital distribution, i am ok with PC games because you still can get hard copies of it and with old games (like the PSN/VC) because there's no way around it most of the time (since i might not have the console)

in addition recently i discovered how convenient is to have a pack that holds all my games with their manuals (i have one for the DS holds up to 20 games and around 15 manuals) such a great way to carry around games. and i believe there is a similar case for PSP UMDs too so i ought to get a 3000 along with that rather than have someone stare at my PSP if they want to see what games i have.

in my humblest opinion, and not to try to raise anything terrible but i seriously hope that the whole GO deal sinks like the GBA micro did. OR maybe create a model that accepts both UMDs and digital distributed games (kind of like the PC)

I disagree. You're welcome to your opinion, of course though.

I see it like upgrading from a CD Player to an iPod. Do I want to carry around cd's with me and switch them in and out and carry a clunky CD Player? Or do I want to just download straight from Apple store and go through music on a menu based gadget.

or you could buy the disc and download it to an MP3 player and still have the disc to trade around.....seriously that's the Step that needs to be taken.

as i always said.... i am all up for good options that don't cost any money, and that's the good thing about Ipods that you have infinite amount of options to get your music, either get them from the Disc or the Apple store. plus the PSP3000 is not really as bad as a clunky CD player XD in fact i find it more comfortable in my pocket than a DS PHAT (that thing is a tank)

now i do understand that an UMD disc is a lot bigger than a small DS cartridge and i can see your point clearly, i can see why is convenient. however like i have said many times in the past, taking away an option just makes me mad.

well at least i got something out of this discussion, easy accessibility does not always mean it's going to be more comfortable

I'm just glad this will be the first handheld console that will fit comfortably in my pants pocket. And I also found out another cool feature:

If you have a cell phone with blu-tooth, you can put your PSP Go online ANYWHERE by connecting to it! That means you can go online, download games, or download movies ANYWHERE! :D
