I never liked Quake III, and I don't exactly think the Doom III engine was all too special. In other words, I personally am not looking forward to this game.

It ain't your granddaddy's Doom 3 engine. It has been given some major overhauls. Doom 3 engine V2.

Im still in love with Quake 2. Quake 3 sucks! I dont know wtf they did to the engine but its just crappy to me, I dont like how it feels during gameplay. Never played Doom 3, so Im guessing the game engine is the same eh?

what is the style of Quake 4?

Is it like Quake 3? OR like Quake 2? Quake 2 rules all Quakes.

Direct sequel to Quake 2....Earth cannot defend itself against the Stroggs anymore....so this time, in order to defeat the enemy, they must become....the enemy...Human soliders are now cybernetic with all the bells and whistles that the Stroggs use in order to fight back the Strogg army this time..

Not really. SPOILERS

Your character gets turned into a Strogg but is rescued before he gets mind implants or something of that sorts. So he is an independent Strogg that fights alongside the Marines.

I loved the first Quake ('specially on a network), but hated Quake 2. Gone are all the cool monsters and nasty weapons, and instead we got stupid robots? Geez. Quake III Arena rocked (heh) quite a bit, but it can't compete with Unreal Tournament any more. And get Doom 3 if you dare. 8)

YES! Someone finally agrees with me!

I, too, enjoyed Quake and Quake III:Arena WAY more than Quake II! The monsters were hellish, zombie soldiers, then.. uhm.. everything else was a demon pretty much. Quake MegaTF team fortress ruled as well...and RuneQuake!!

I had a Quake 3 deathmatch against the entire cast of South Park. That was priceless. :D

Who ended up buying this? I bought it... but I am mildly impressed..

Quake 2 is sitll my fav.... Q4 is not bad... it is not what I thought it would be though....
I gotta try multiplayer for it... hopefully action Q4 comes out soon.

Quake 4/Doom 3

Okay, so I've got Doom 3 on the Xbox and it's one of the few games that has that "jump" factor to it of a survival horror, while still having the action of a first person shooter...

I've been wondering about Quake 4 for a while since I have all of the prior Quake games and expansions... Tonight I finally made the effort to look for a playable demo.

So far, it really seems like it has the feel of Doom 3 with a little less of the endless maze feel and a little more action. The characters and sounds are familiar to the Quake II gameplay and story with updated Doom 3 style graphics. I think I like it. Too bad I can't download it off Steam or I'd probably be downloading it now...

But, since I can neither run out and buy it now at 1:52 am, nor download it, I'd like some more opinions on it (and Doom 3 for that matter).

So, what do all of you think about Quake 4 and/or Doom 3? Which did you like better? Do they have replay value?
