Rock Band and Guitar Hero have more competition...introducing: Rock Revolution

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/konami-jumps-on-the-band-wagon-with-rock-revolution/

When Guitar Hero first hit PS2, we thought: "Wow, this is like Konami's GuitarFreaks ... and that's been around since the original PlayStation. Why don't they release it here?" Well, our question was answered at yesterday's Konami Gamer's Night 2008 with the unveiling of Rock Revolution. Taking the "Revolution" suffix naming scheme of its other music genre (bemani) cousins, the game, from SingStar developer Zoƫ Mode, is set for a fall release on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo DS. We have the first screens of the HD offerings, along with some salient details:

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will feature:

* 40 songs on the disc, with DLC tracks planned
* Record your own songs in a "Jam Session" (8 separate tracks)
* Online co-op, versus, and battle of the bands modes
* Crazy big drum set with six pads, plus pedal

The Wii version adds the ability to play "air guitar" using the Wiimote and nunchuck; and the DS version includes a "Vocalist" mode using the built-in microphone. Check back later today for our hands-on impressions of Rock Revolution for Xbox 360 -- and be sure to peep the debut trailer after the break!

I was cool with the Guitar Hero series. Cool controller, fun to play, it's all good. I was cool with Rock Band. Awesome instruments, a hell of a good time with friends. But I am getting sick of this already. ENOUGH MUSIC GAMES! Guitar Hero with drums now? Guitar Hero on DS!? This is getting out of hand!

Hehe... it's awesomeness for people like me, though. I can't get enough of rhythm-based games... need... more...

I really don't have room for two drum sets in my freaking room, and I'm sure it's a hassle for everyone else as well.

Lol, yeah, that could do it. :p

I don't play Rock Band anyway, so I'm not worried about that one. It's not challenging enough, personally.

Yeah that's pretty much why I'm not planning on getting anymore huge game bundles with huge accessories like the drum sets... =/ I have a small room.

Whats most exciting is that Konami is using a Cover band to do all the songs, apparently we need a cover of Avril's Sk8tr Boi (why couldnt they choose a more recent song by her?!)

Konami has been making guitar games for FAR longer than Harmonix, and Guitar Hero came around. I think they were limited to Japan though. I don't see why they shouldn't release their games in the U.S now that they know there is a market for rhythm games here. If anything, I'd say Konami has more of a right to make a guitar-based rhythm game than Harmonix or Red Octane does.

Why couldn't they just not use a song by her? :lol

Unless it is a group that I like I do not think it is wise to use coverbands, as one of the comments on a post in gamespot says, this is 0 steps forward and 10 steps backward. Welcome to the world of multiple Rock Band alikes. I bet we will get a Nintendo themed one eventually.

Cover bands for everything? That's awful.

Yeah, I hate it when a cover band is doing songs I love and it's noticeably different.

I'm just more pissed off they seem to have made no attempt to even get the original bands.

Re: Rock Band and Guitar Hero have more competition...introducing: Rock Revoluti

They may have..but those bands could have signed a deal with Guitar Hero or Rock Band for exclusivity.

Every single one they wanted? Doubtful.

The majority? Probable.

Why only have three or four songs that are from the original artist if the majority are going to be covers anyway?

I doubt the majority of liked bands have signed an exclusive contract, as more games mean more money.

Because then it's three or four originals, as opposed to all covers.

Talk to the bands about that.

Which probably doesn't sound like a good idea to the developers. Plus, cover bands are cheaper.
