Sega: Crazy, or brilliant? (re: 2K5 games only $20)

All of the 2K5 games are going to be released at $20. ESPN NFL 2K5 and ESPN NHL 2K5 are already out, and Sega recently confirmed that ESPN NBA 2K5 will also be $20. I'm not sure what the baseball one is called but it's going to be $20 as well.

Do you think that Sega is smart doing this, or is it a crazy idea?

Personally, I think it's smart because it makes it more attractive to people who usually only buy EA sports games. I guess they figure that for $20, it's at least worth a try, and if they end up not liking it as much as the EA sports games, at least they only spent $20 instead of $50. But if they do like it, then Sega has a fan base for next year.

I'd say that's brilliant as well. For people who are looking for a football game, with no perticular prefence, it's an obvious choice. And even though I find Sega's sports games to be lacking compared to EA's, for that price tag, I might even be tempted to switch over. Well, no, I wouldn't, but I think a lot of people will.

It's a great idea you can pick up a good game for cheap! if you don't care about getting to best or hottest but just want a decent game then this would be a great pick for many.

rember VF4 evo, that was 20 bucks and IS one of the hottest fighers around.

Wee! Bumping an old topic. But recently I noticed something I thought would be worthwhile to post:

Madden 2005 already dropped down from $49.99 to $29.99! And NBA Live 2005 already dropped down from $39.99 to $29.99 as well.

EA must be feeling the heat from the 2K5 games! To that I say:

Great! It's about time! Maybe EA will actually do something new with their franchises instead of just updating them in small increments every year.

That's cool...glad to see it (apparantly) worked well for them.
I for one did switch over because of the price and based on reviews that had NFL 2K5 just as good Madden. One thing I really like in the ESPN games over Madden is all the ESPN graphics and such...gives it a better presentation I think.

I can't speak for every sports game, I don't play very many very often, but without a doubt the NBA Live franchise is leaps and bounds ahead of Sega's NBA 2k whatever. I myself bought NBA 2k4 for cheap and loved it until I played NBA Live 2004. After playing EA's take on basketball I just couldn't enjoy 2K4 anymore, and I'd gladly pay the extra $30 or I guess $10 now for it.

Yea I just meant hockey games. Ea's hockey games are utterly horrible and they simply can't hold a candle to Sega's hockey franchise. The EA hockey games are all so arcadey and fakey while the Sega's are super accurate and realistic, casuals hate the realism but I love it.
