"SMOOTHING"

I put a PS2 game in my PS3 as usual,for the first time I noticed the function "Smoothing". I can't find my manuals so I can't check it out.Can anyone tell me what "Smoothing" means?

Smooths the graphics on a PS2 and PS1 games, so the pixels and images look sharper and not roughed out. I highly recommend it. =)
