So overpriced...

Speaking from my hardcore PC fanboyism, I feel the PS3 is horrendously ovepriced.

For example:

Option 1:
PS3 - $600

Option 2:
PC - http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=T3504 - $320
Graphics card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150144 - $230

Option 2 costs $50 less, has a more powerful GPU, and can do hundreds more than a PS3 could ever dream of doing (try editing video, audio, pictures on your PS3, try burning CDs and DVDs, try updating your portable media player, etc.).

The only advantage the PS3 has is the Blu-ray functionality, but that also requires an expensive TV to reap the benefits.

One may argue the fact that "PS3 is uber powerful!!shift+1=!!!1!!!1!1!" but it's not entirely true. That PC has 256MB of system memory, plus 256MB of VRAM. The PS3 has 256MB memory shared between the system and the GPU. The PC has a superior GPU (7800 GT < RSX < 7800 GTX < 7900 GT) as well.

As for the CPU, it doesn't really matter anyway. At 1024x768 and higher games are all GPU-dependent anyway.

360 + Wii = about the price of a PS3.  One of the best choices.
I'd say that makes sense right there...

more post to come later though :lol I gotta get playing a game of memory with my little one.

Bv :hat

It won't be. Better? Maybe. It will still boil down to personal preferences (like how people argue over whether PS2, GCN, or Xbox is better)

For the price alone, I'd take a Wii and 360 over a PS3, considering you will be getting exposed to more games.

Buying a 360 is a pretty safe move. I mean, just take a peak at all the wonderful upcoming games at Gamespot.com. The problem with Xbox, for me at least, was that it just didn't have enough games in some of the genres I like, thus I basically had to own a PS2 for my rpg fix. From what I see that will not be the case with the 360. This makes me happy because between my pc, 360, and Wii, I'll have everything I need. It would take some truly groundbreaking games on the PS3 to make me cough up that kind of money on a single console.

Face it...the next generation of gaming is gonna suck...badly. The Wii's going to be great, but the lack of games for gamers who are into games such as, I don't know-don't use freaking motion-detection, won't buy it!! The PS3 is gonna suck with it being overpriced-but MGS4, though!!!! 360 will be terrible because-well, it's the 360!! How many games exclusive to the console have come out that were amazing? Dead Rising will, maby. Halo 3 and Saints Row. I might have missed some things, but all the 360 has is games and online. That might seem like enough for the system to flourish, but no for me!! I want to be able to play every game ever!! My solution-all companies come together and form the ULTIMATE SYSTEM!!! The price would be around 150 to 200 dollars. It would be coooool!!! Every game to come out would be on it!!!! I am such a genius.................

I disagree. If the new consoles recycle the current gaming library, then we haven't lost anything. And the current consoles are great. If they build upon it, then we will see it. But saying that the new hardware will suck is kind of baseless.

As for the PS3 being overpriced, I agree. $600 is a lot for a console. And it will be a bank-breaker if it comes out with the same flaws that plagued the PS2.

I personally will pick up a Revolution and a 360 and wait and see what Sony does with their new offering...

Yea you're stupid.

360 - huge wave of awesome games to hit stores between now and Chistmas and more to come after
Wii - Revolutionizing the way we play games
ps3 - It's Sony they will find a way to sell this thing and make it rule

You have some good points and I agree. It's stupid of Sony to even claim that you're buying a "computer" with the PS3. But I want to point out a couple of things.

The RAM argument can't really be used because the way a video game machine and a PC use RAM is different. Whereas a PS3 has total dedicated memory it doesn't need much to help run games smoothly. Should it still have more? Yes. But sometimes it's necessary to keep the cost down. The 360 doesn't have much RAM either compared to a PC but still does a great job.

Technically, with the Blu-Ray player inside it still is a value regardless if you have an HDTV or not. Either way you would get a cheap blu-ray player. Had it not had it at all, you and I know that this machine would have been competitivly priced to a 360.

The wii will not revolutionize gaming. It will be cool for people who want to get carpal tunnel moving that huge controller around with their wrists. But think of the gamers who like to just sit down and have only there thumbs and index fingers moving....the Wii will suck for those people-(me!)

I've seen pics and crap of people with that stpid controller, and it's going to give ya carpal tunnel, I know it!The other controller you can use looks like crap, so whatever.

Carpal tunnel is caused when someone rests their wrists on, let's say, a desk, or something that puts constant pressure on the bottom of the wrists. So I seriously doubt that waving a ontroller around will cause this ailment. If anything, it could put someone's eye out if they just happen to be too close. :D

I'll porbably be suckered in to buying the Wii and PS3. I started with Nintendo, and I love Sony......I don't like Microsoft-talking to you, Bill Gates!! >:( eh, I can at least turn my Wii controller into a weapon and find a way to put dualshock into my PS3 controller myself....

That sounds like a cool experiment, but this is assuming that PS3 games will actually have any vibration function in them, there is enough room for dualshock motors and not messing up the motion sensing. But if you try let us know how it goesl.

Yea, the PS3 won't have the dualshock anymore...which sucks for people like me who plays a bunch of Tony Hawk games.... :'(
