September 10, 2004 - In an announcement made by SEGA of America today, it was revealed that Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (or Super Monkey Ball DX) will definitely be making an appearance on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox early next year. Long rumored to be in development by astute games who noticed the title on various website retailers coming soon lists, Monkey Ball DX is a beloved GameCube puzzler that mixes action and silliness all in one package.

"Super Monkey Ball has been a fan favorite since its introduction on the Nintendo GameCube in 2001," said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of entertainment marketing, SEGA of America. "We're pleased to finally make this unique, broadly accessible franchise available to gamers across all platforms."

For the Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions, Monkey Ball will feature more than 300 different stages (114 from Super Monkey 1, 140 from Super Monkey 2, and 46 exclusive boards made specifically for Delux.) and an all-new Challenge mode that slowly guides players through beginner, intermediate, and advanced obstacles instead of dividing the difficulty settings into different sections. Additionally, the Story Mode will boast extra stages not seen before, and all 12 party games from both GameCube Monkey Balls will be included.

We'll have more on Super Monkey Ball Deluxe in the coming months. Look for it to hit store shelves in the first quarter of 2005, for an SRP of $29.95.

I'm sorry, but I just find this really irritating. Thanks a lot, Sega. If they are going to add 46 exclusive boards and extra stages to SMB DX, why not release the Super Monkey Ball Deluxe on the Gamecube as well?

I hope at least that Sega puts those in as bonuses in Super Monkey Ball 3, which at least as far as I know is still Gamecube exclusive.

A more correct translation of this would be:

Since this game did well on the GCN, it should sell even better on the other two systems.

No it won't.

I bet my bottom dollar.

they won't sell half as much.  mark my words, I'll eat them if I am wrong.

Things like this do piss me off... and really its just Sega's arrogance talking (wallet too).

oh well...   ::)

oh btw... this was announced by Sega in June.... not sure why it says September.

I doubt it'll sell as well on either console, it wont be popular enough compaired to games like GTA and MGS on the PS2...people just wont care. Same for XBOX. Sega must of had this in mind, so really it just comes down to them wanting to make a few more bob.

Right now... there are a lot of Sega fans upset.... not over this issue, but over many issues about their lack of creativity..etc.

what I don't get it why they specifically stated these games were Gamecube exclusive, then take it back.

That makes me mad in a company.... and honestly, I haven't liked Sega all the much. They have great games... I like playing some of them, but even back in the Snes days, I wanted Sega out of business.

Now, I wish that is was just Sega Vs Nintendo again.

Well I heard that it might have something to do with going online...but really, that makes NO sense, whatsoever, considering that Sega also made the Phantasy Star Online games for Gamecube, so they know how to use the online thing on the Gamecube.

It just seems like a really illogical business decision on Sega's part. Didn't Sonic Heroes do the best on the Gamecube even though it was released on all three systems?

If it was just Sega vs Nintendo now...? Gaming would be alot more boring. Though I'd probably still have Shenmue at least.

Gaming right now IS pretty boring, and regardless of the systems out, the same games would have come out, either for one system or the other (IF it was just Nintendo Vs Sega).
I mean... more than likely, the games of today would not have changed.

I think I agree with BV. Super Monkey Ball 1 was a launch game on the Gamecube, and SMB 2 has been out for over a year. Both are $20 now. I think most people who would want SMB already have it for their Gamecubes. I don't see Super Monkey Ball Deluxe selling all that well on the PS2 or the XBOX, so long after the fact.

And gaming isn't boring right now - when you have the right system. :lol

Yeah, I agree with that. I have all three systems and am currently enjoying all of them. Burnout 3 on XBOX, Tales of Symphonia on GC, Champions of Norrath on PS2 (and soon Katamari Damacy), Castlevania on the GBA.

While I do find that there's often not a lot of games coming out that interest me, the ones that do are more than long enough or good enough to make up for it.

Nope - absolutely not.
I would say *at least* 50% of the stuff that's out nowadays wouldn't be out if it was just Sega vs. Nintendo.

I don't think either one would have brought the variety that Sony did.

Sony just brought a different style to gaming...I don't think you would've have seen stuff like Tenchu, the Legacy Of Kain series, Grand Theft Auto, Knights of the Old Republic, Xenogears/Saga.

I think alot of the more mature stuff just wouldn't have been done.

And I don't think American platformers like Jak or Crash Bandicoot would've been given a chance to develop either.

And gaming isn't boring right now - when you have the right system.  :lol

actually.. I would be very unhappy with the other systems.

Gaming is boring right now.  Not much good coming out (and not much money to spend).
I do have a lot of fun with the Gamecube, and the PC.

Might I remind you neph.... GTA 1 & 2 were on other systems before the Ps :)
You would see EVERY game you see today on either Nintendo or Sega.  Game dev does not stop.  Where the games go.... that changes.

GBA rivals Sony big time in Game diversity. Gamecube still has the best library of games... even though MB is headed the way of Xbox and Ps2.
But I am more than 95% certain that they will not sell much on either system. I give 40,000 units on the Xbox and 100K on Ps2 (if that in the Ps2).

I think its funny that game makers think "oh, I'll put it on the Xbox and it'll sell a lot." The Xbox games tend to sell less than Gamecube games (look at the figures.... and we're talking good games, not cheesy crap that sucks regardless of what system you are on).

The only thing GBA has is endless SNES ports. I got bored of my GBA over a year ago.

There's no way that's even close to accurate. When BV means the library of the GBA, he's not just talking about the actual Advance games but also the original Game Boy games and Game Boy Color games, since the GBA is totally backwards compatible. That's a what, more than 1000 game library? Assuming maybe 200 of those are ports from earlier systems, that's still only 20% of the entire Game Boy library.

If you say that you can only find SNES ports, you're not looking hard enough. Or maybe it's that you refuse to acknowledge that anything on the GBA could possibly be worth buying.

But I agree that gaming wouldn't be where it is today without the introduction of the PSone. It made gaming more mainstream.

Well the PS2 I can see, but the XBOX? Totally wrong demographics.

"Yes, I bought my XBOX for Halo and Super Monkey Ball!"

Very true. I heard Super Monkey ball was a pretty fun game, but I just think it won't be very welcome on the Xbox.

Which were?
BOTH 1 and 2! :lol

Nope. You absolutely would not. You're right that game dev. doesn't stop. But with only 2 publishers, they'd have very different opinions about what's worth publishing and what's not. And I think, judging from the past and current libraries of the Sega and Nintendo systems, you wouldn't see HALF the stuff that's out there today if Sony wasn't around.
wrong... you wouldn't have seen have the stuff out on Sony without Nintendo starting it off  ;)
and those games WOULD have gone to one of the 2 systems if it was Nintendo / Sega.... there is no doubt about it.
This is just useless speculation now.

Don't forget the nes ports as well :D
man.... there are sooo many good games on the GBA its not funny.

And I am 100% certain they will. On the PS2 at least.
Find the numbers for Gamecube.... and watch... neither will touch the Gamecube sales of that game.
Its done with... old.... and its been seen already.

There are over 500 games for the GBA.... I believe. there has to be. The Gamecube itself has over 400 supposively..... and I mean JUST GBA games.
Do you know how many GBC and GB games there are. I'd say 1500-2000... and maybe over 2000 IF accumlating all the titles. Its massive.

†B†V† :hat

Uhh, just how can most GB games be ports, when most of the games were created by the GB anyway? Man, you really have it in for Nintendo.

What bothers me about these companies putting a game exclusively on the Gamecube and then porting it to the PS2 is this:

They do it assuming it will sell better.

Well, no duh. -_- The PS2 has a much bigger user base. A game could sell to 100% of Gamecube owners and only 20% of PS2 owners and still outsell the GC version in pure numbers just because of the difference in user base.

But if you compare 100% to 20%, it really didn't do that well on the PS2 in comparison.

And that sucks because they go by the pure numbers instead of the percentages and decide that since it sold "so much better" on the PS2 that there is no point for them to even release future games on the Gamecube.

And as far as Namco putting Tales on the PS2 (only in Japan), I wouldn't have minded at all if Namco had said it wasn't going to be GameCube exclusive from the start. But they did, that's what it said on the box, Nintendo released a ToS edition GameCube, and now PS2 gets it with extra stuff? It's not the same as a game that was never supposed to be exclusive anyway being released for a different console later with extra features to compensate for being released later. Same thing for Capcom with Viewtiful Joe. If Capcom had said from the start that they were putting it on GC first but would eventually put it on PS2, I would have been cool with that. I understand that it's purely business and to expect any company to be loyal to a certain system is just silly, but it still bothers me that they will say a game is GC exclusive and then later on put it on the other systems.

I realise how ridiculous the port claim was - but if you guys are allowed to make ridiculous claims about Sony, the same applies to me and Nintendo.

I've never made ridiculous claims about Sony. They're really not that interesting to talk about...

And I don't "have it in" for Nintendo.

Your constant critictism of them tells me differently. Infact I think i've only ever seen you say about 2 or 3 good things about them. It's like...why do you even bother buying their products if they're so evil and greedy like you claim they are.
