The PS3 vs. Wii Debate...

ouch don't debate about the consoles when the other guy has a potential weapon in his hand

I don't think there should be a PS3 vs Wii debate becuase it really seems that only microsoft and sony are competing and the wii is off by itself doing its own thing

I would say it's Wii vs. PS3 at the moment, because neither have a chance of catching up to the 360.

Yeah, catching up to 10,000,000 units is no cake walk. Especially for Sony, at least Nintendo has half of that.

If by "own thing" you mean "developing and marketing videogames" then yes, you would be correct, although your entire statement would turn into a complete contradiction, but leaving it as it is would also be a mistake. It would be like saying Red Octane was not competing with other game developers when they made Guitar Hero because they were "doing their own thing."

If you have at least one functional eye and maneuverable digits of some sort, preferably attached to an extendable limb, then Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are all attempting to get into your pocketbook. One might go so far as to say they are competing to do so.

maybe I should have stated it a bit differently, nintendo is competing in the market I agree, but it seems that nintendo has relied on the wii's functionality and gameplay whereas sony and microsoft are competing with mostly power and graphics therefore though they are all in the same market nintendo is going about it a different way

PS3
Phil Harrison is a moron and a half.
I asked for a gaming console, not a dvd player or any other crap I never asked for.
Online capabilities are weak if not non-existent.
It's 600 dollars.
It has like 3 exclusive games out that are even worth buying.
Did I mention the 600 dollar thing?
K. good.

I'm going to throw in Xbox360 too.
The Wii is top in sales, doubling the sales of the PS3 but Xbox360 is definitely the best buy right now. The game releases for it are really good.
I really like the WII, it's really innovative and such but truthfully quality wise it's not all that great. It really does look crappy, even with component cables. I'm a die-hard fan of Nintendo but I need some classics. The really amusing, quick-to-get old mini-game type of games are not really cutting it. However, I believe Nintendo has done something really amazing with the gaming world. They've spread the gaming horizon beyond us nerdy really fat/skinny kids that well...game all day. It's revolutionary, and they took a big chance, ultimately making an affordable console with pretty decent and fun games. Quite simply, regardless of the intended audience for the WII, I LOVED Zelda: TP. It was worth the buy and other games make it the perfect party console. That's about all I've got. I'm biased, I know but I think my points are valid.
Xbox360 is expectedly doing the best, it's simply beautiful graphic wise and with a year under it's belt it has the most going for it.
PS3 is such a disappointment. Sony is such a disappointment. Phil Harrison is dumb. I always believed that the game releases made PS2, not the console itself. So now without any good exclusive games and a ridiculous pricetag for something that I don't need, I've simply reaffirmed my position on Sony.
Which is gay.

You, are my hero.

Give the PS3 some time to come into it's own.

When the 360 launched it had a whole lot of nothing going for it. Nothing was particularly impressive, and in my opinion, there were no games out that really validated buying the console on launch. However, after a year, the 360 really is something special. It's got a few hit titles in it's roster and it looks like there will be plenty more on the way. The PS3 does have some good titles on the horizon, there's not much to warrant a purchase now, but the system has great potential.

Ditto for the Wii. I don't find the Wii particularly attractive at the moment either. As you pointed out nearly every game on the system is a collection of minigames, or a minigame that tries to be a complete game. For me, that doesn't cut it. However, I think given enough time, you may start to really some deep gameplay experiences on that console. It's just a matter of patience.
