The Wii/PS3 like the DS/PSP?

Lurker
I mean, the DS started out, every developer just making games with gimmicks and stuff, and it still sold well. Then the PSP got a few good games and the DS people finally realized they should try some more, and now the DS has a bit of everything and some new things, some nearly three years later. Same thing gonna happen with the Wii?

The Wii will get awesome games. Keep in mind how the sales of the Gamecube pretty much sucked...why would developers think the Wii would work? It took everyone by surprise. The good games will start coming now that people are on board. :)

The Gamecube didn't suck, it's sales did because it didn't have a DVD player.

I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm buying a Wii soon so I can play some fun and quirky games, but I just don't think the Wii has what it takes to compete in the long run. Of course on this site I'm being labeled as a Sony fanboy and a Nintendo hater somehow, but I'm just showing my dissapointment for a system I got, almost on launch, and sold so I could play something that looked better to me in the long run. Do I regret selling my Wii? Not so much. The PS3 with all of its multi-media functions are keeping me real happy, and watching movies on Blu-Ray is stunning. The Wii, like the PS3 has its games that are getting sequels from their last gen counterparts, which is awesome. I'm expecting better games in the future from both systems, and I'll own all three next gen systems soon. :)

Yeah, Nintendo really needs to announce more 'real' games. Sure, I'll be set with Brawl, Prime, Dragon Blade, the new franchise, and the real Zelda Wii, it still needs more choices.

Hold up wait a second.

I still don't understand why we can have a topic about not judging the PS3 so quickly, and yet on the Wii board everyone is so quick to say "Wii has nothing after the big three this year."

I wasn't aware that you all worked in the video game industry and know exactly what they have planned for the Wii in 2008. :lol

It's not. But come on, don't I have a point? Everyone's like "What does the Wii have besides Metroid, Mario, and SSBB?" Well, we don't know. No one has announced it yet. But that doesn't mean it's not coming. Yet, everyone acts like that is the case. Is the Wii going to stop existing once Mario Kart Wii comes out in 2008? No, it's not. Companies are still going to make games for it.

It's just frustrating to see people write it off at this point in time because they don't have the patience to see what's coming in 2008.

So you should understand where I'm coming from with the PS3, no?

All I see on this site is people trashing the PS3, and laughing at anyone who defends it. Then, when someone says ONE little bad thing about the Wii, we're all in an uproar. I actually started a couple threads bashing the PS3 a while ago, until I actually got one and saw I was wrong about everything.

To me, right now, the Wii isn't enough and doesn't have enough "announced" games to keep me satisfied. Until we start getting more games, or at least news of some games, we're all not going to be truly happy with it.

The lack of third party support was because developers lost money making games for it, because they didn't sell well, because the Gamecube had poor sales, because it had no DVD player.

Lack of DVD playback didn't hurt the Cubes sales. That actually...has nothing to do with why there's no good games. Did every third party developer say, "Oh, you can't play my dvds? Well screw your console!" lmao that's just ludacris. :lol

No, I'm dead serious. Since DVD players were so new back then, it helped sales if they had it(PS2), and since the Gamecube didn't have it, no one bought the 'cheap DVD player', but instead got the Xbox(DVD player) or the at the time, looked better than the Gamecube PS2(with DVD player). So because of that, Gamecube sales were low, so if you made a game for it, you'd probably lose money since not enough people even could buy it, so they all moved away from it. You can't make this crap up.

actually, a lot of them did just that. the small disc size limited them, as the ps2 and xbox had plenty of room for all the stuff they wanted. and dont give me the two disc crap, that was a hassle, and is more expensive to manufacture. this is why a lot of multiplatform games are not on gamecube, or the ones that are, are downgraded.
