This is horrible...

Yeah, I heard the audio tape on local news around here. You know what else happened around here in Detroit lately? The rapper Proof from D12 (which consisted of Eminem and his closest friends since they were young) was shot in the head at a night club less than 5 miles away from me. It happened on 8 mile and gratiot and I live on 13 mile and gratiot.

Crazy happenings around here. Thank god Feiger's taking this kid's case though.

that is horrible, I think she shopuld have gotten fired for that, who cares about her years of service, she wa to busy thinking the kid was kidding rather then taking her job seriously.

Ya but, they do get a lot of prank calls. There's a good chance she had several prank calls that night, maybe this kid was like the 4th kid to call in, and she was just fed up with it.

It's no excuse for what happened, but I can see why she wouldn't get fired over it.

You're right Stealth. But I look at it this way. She could have dispatched a police officer anyway. In most communities, they do just that. Because out of a hundred false alarms there could be one life threatening call. And over the phone I don't think anyone could make that judgment. And I don't think that dispatchers should hold the authority in that decision.

I can't tell you how messed up this is, or should I say I can't tell you how I really feel or I'll get in trouble because it would involve quite a few four letter words. This is reprehensible. That operator should not only lose her job but also have charges filed against her.

man that is sad. It was a little kid..idc if i always got pranks. if i little kid called (prank or not) i'd send help!

and as micheal moore would say it's all president bushes fault....i dont think that really
i just had to bash micheal moore  :lol

Well like I said, there's no excuse for what she did. But I'm pretty sure she learned her lesson and will make sure to take calls more seriously after this, justifying their decision to not fire her.

It should never take a death for someone to finally get serious.... :-\

I view this as a very fine line. Now, we most likely don't have every detail in the case. We don't know if she got a large quantity of prank calls before this one. If she did, then I'd say it was most unfortunate that this happened. But this still doesn't nullify any disciplinary action. Maybe terminating her employment would be a good idea. In my compny, if a guy gets caught stealing, he loses his job. It helps the rest of the workers realize that things like this are not tolerated.

Sometimes an example is needed...

Police are supposed to respond to an emergency call regardless if it sounds like a joke. If I were that boy I would nuke the *rude word not aloud to be mentioned* all the the way to the other side of the universe! >:(
Fell sorry for the Kid. :'(

Its easy to say that she shouldn't be fired. Because you aren't a 6 year old growing up without a mom because the person on the other end of ONE phone number virtually every little kid in the US knows to call for help in an emergency refused to believe him. I may not be the ultimate all-knowing guru of justice, but, the fact this *expletive* is still working *expletive* me off incredibly.

Did she die because they didn't get to her on time?

From what I understood from the article she had died by the time her son called 911.

Its easy to say that she shouldn't be fired.

I'm not saying that she should or shouldn't be fired. Frankly, I don't know what I'd do as her boss in that situation. But perhaps she is a valued employee that, aside from this one incident, has a perfect record. Like Dart pointed out, we don't know all the facts, so it's hard to say what the right decision would be. I'm just trying to figure out why she wouldn't be fired as much as everyone else here.
