Hello Fellow Game Junkies,

I like shopping for games as much as the next guy,but sometimes,I find it a little annoying.Used games aside,I sometimes find it difficult to get the best price.I don't mind going to 1 store maybe 2,but because these stores are in constant competition, sometimes if you are lucky you might be able to catch a good deal.Once I found a sealed "GTA:San Andreas"for $12.99.

The point I'm trying to make is it would be nice if there was some sort of standard price, but I'm certain there would be a lot of pitfalls to that concept.Buying games should be fun,not work.

God Bless,

Games basically must be sold at MSRP (the "suggested" retail price) until the publisher stops making the game. Why else would every game be $50 or $60 everywhere when it first comes out?

Hi Homicidal,

I didn't know that.thanks for the info. :)

Well, if you sell them under MSRP you lose profit. Basically from a sales point of view, you have a buy price and a sell price, you buy the game from the company at whatever price you can talk them down to, there usually is not much haggling that can be done there, if any at all. Once you've bought the game it goes into your inventory, then you give it a markup. Markup on games usually isn't very much, but the percentage difference between what you buy the game for and then turn around and sell it for is your profit.

When a game lowers in MSRP, the buy price is lower for the title, but you also have to lower the sell price. Sometimes if you have a crapload of the game that you bought at the higher MSRP, but because MSRP dropped, you have to mark the games down to still sell them at all. That makes you lose profit on the games you still had in stock before the price drop. Sure they sell faster, but you will be losing money on some of them. Not to mention that anyone who really wanted the game usually buys it at the original MSRP regardless.

So ... maybe I find it annoying selling video games .... :?
