I remember in "FF II" you could duplicate weapons. Was this a hidden trick or a glitch?

Peace.
Kaz

uh i don't remember Final Fantasy II having such glitch or hidden trick.....

Unless you mean Final Fantasy IV.....then it is a glitch i believe... but i thought we already went over the whole FF2 = FF4 it is confusing because some people don't know which version of the game you are talking about... if you don't want to acknowledge that Final Fantasy 2 was in reality Final Fantasy 4 then at the very least to avoid confusion name it "FF2 for the SNES" or something of the sort....

Well, that's why I posted this in the "NES"/"SNES" section.

it would still be confusing though....since there's an FFII on famicon/nes......

So Kaz, you meant Final Fantasy II SNES? If so, just refer it as "Final Fantasy IV" since that is it's real name.

If "IV" is it's real name, then why did they sell it for the "SNES" as being 2? I'm not trying to sound argumentative,I've never seen "IV" around where I live.

Because that was the old ways of Nintendo of America's marketing. They skipped out on two and three, because they felt those games were much harder compared to the first. Plus, Final Fantasy I wasn't released until 1990 in America, so with very little time on their hands, they had to release Final Fantasy IV under the name Final Fantasy II for marketing reasons.

I understand now.Thanks Mega!

As this is in the SNES forum, Final Fantasy II means the SNES US release as there was no SNES release of Final Fantasy IV.

This is not the Famicon forum, so Final Fantasy II can be safely assumed to mean the SNES release.

Granted, I have Final Fantasy IV: Advance on the GBA.

For the purposes of this thread Final Fantasy II =/= Final Fantasy IV.

Okay, now to answer the question.

Kaz, yes, in the US release of Final Fantasy II for the Super Nintendo, there was a glitch that allowed the duplication of SOME weapons. Interestingly enough, the same glitch could be exploited to allow Rydia to equip a silver shield along with her whip.

Neither Final Fantasy IV: Advance, Final Fantasy IV in the Final Fantasy Chronicles Playstation package, nor Final Fantasy IV: DS have this glitch.

I can't remember where I heard it from, but I guess if you duplicate a weapon, there's a chance of losing another item later in the game as a result. It disappears.

I've never had a problem with the glitch.

Really, it has limited usefulness though. The only major advantage I've seen to the weapon duplication is being able to get two Avenger swords (one for Cecil and one for Kain) in the Sylph cave, getting two Samurai shields instead of one in the Bahamut cave, being able to equip Rydia with a silver shield, being able to dual weild any of Edge's weapons after only finding or buying one, and perhaps saving some money early in the game.

Years ago, when I owned the game,I used a "Game Genie" to enhance my characters performance.I knew that Genies could possibly corrupt your game, but used it anyway. What happened was, when Kain jumped up to do his attack,he got stuck and wouldn't come down,no matter what.I reset the game, same problem.

Being inexperienced with the whole electronics thing,I figured I'd try and pull a swifty sending the game back to the company complaining about how sloppy the programmers were in making this game that had such ahorrible glitch.I left my phone number on the letter.About a week or 2 later,I received a call from the company with respect to the "Glitch".As I was about to give them hell about their crummy programming,he cut me off and said.."I bet you didn't think we would know that you used a "Game Genie" on it.

I was speechless, talk about getting caught trying to trick them! :lol

I'm not talking about the Game Genie.

This was exploiting an overlap in the game program if you swapped weapons and ran away from a fight very quickly. That is totally different than using something like the Game Genie to change the game coding.

I remember this glitch...Some people exploited it by duplicating a rare sword and selling it over and over again to make easy money. I think i remember that using this glitch had the potential of screwing up your inventory in a way that ruined the rest of the game so it was kind of a use at your own risk sort of thing.

Oh and MegaDrive...I bet you must be irritated that in Game Informer's top 200 games list in their 200th issue they listed VI and IV as 3 and 2 :P
