Ways to become a better gamer?

It's not that I'm an unbelivably bad gamer, it's just that I don't think I'm as good as I want to be. It's like, I really struggle to finish some games. Could it be my age? (I'm 14, not trying to make any excuses) it could be that I only got my 360 at Xmas and for all of 2007 I pretty much just played PES6 on my Ps2 all the time (don't ask why lol) . I absolutely love games but I'm just not good enough at them! :-\

So yeah, does anyone have some ways for me to improve at games?

Thanks.

Lol, I'm 14, too. For improving, hmm...focus on one genre at a time and play different games until you're comfortable. Don't go too hard right away, or you'll just get pissed. Try and play regularly so you don't lose any of your edge. S'all I got right now.

Good points! I also recommend just taking it slow and being patient. It's also good to play a healthy mix of games, that way you get both mental and physical skills. RPG's and puzzle games are great for building mental skill and understanding of puzzle mechanics and problem solving. Then to build up some physical skills play on something that has multiple difficulty levels such as Halo/s. Get real good on one setting and then bump it up a bit. You will soon see you're moving and thinking faster then ever before! Good luck!

RPG's are great for beginners, they have simple combat, and the turn based ones aren't too fast. Go get FFIVGBA(or wait for the DS), to start RPGs. Or play Pokemon. Pokemon is fun.

Play your butt off!!

Some games that you play a lot can make you better at others,no substitute for experience!Joining this forum certainly doesn't hurt either.Plenty of sound advice. :)

Relax and don't take games too seriously. What's the point of winning if you're not having fun?

Yeah, that's what I would say.

It's also important to find out what kind of games you like, and start with those. If you don't enjoy the game you're playing, you're not going to want to get better at it.

Very true (which is why I like to play simple sports games so much) but when you can't complete things it gets you frustrated and takes away some of the "fun" factor.

Thanks for the adivce though people, I appreciate it :D

It helps when you start to get PO'd that you tell yourself it's just a game, and an inanimate object should not be able to piss you off, unless done so by the story.

I find sports games to be the most frustrating out of any genre because there's no "try harder" button. When you get beat in real sports you feel you were bested, but when you lose in a sport in a videogame where you're supposed to be able to do anything a professional athlete can do, you feel cheated. There's nothing you can do in that situation, try and learn how the game wants you to play the sport I guess, but often that logic is backwards, so don't give it much thought.

If you're having trouble just getting to the end of some games, try using a guide to see if you're doing something wrong. Of course, some games are just plain hard, and some games you just won't be any good at. I've certainly played my fair share of games where I've quit playing them because they became ridiculously difficult. Took me years to beat the final boss in Winback for the N64, years. A prime example is Bioshock. I enjoy that game, but I have no idea how the combat is supposed to function. As a result I will probably never finish that game.
