Boom-shacka-lacka
From my other topic (Good ol newegg), I had purchased a motherboard. Well, it came in today (finally) and I got it all together. Got the new processor installed, got everything all set, and what do I get when I start it up? A non-responsive keyboard and a frozen splash screen. Now I have to send it back and wait another few weeks for a new motherboard. :hh
 
Man, that is just bad luck! You sure it's not the RAM giving problems? Oh, and what motherboard is it?

This was the motherboard I ordered; A Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L.

Unless the motherboard simply doesn't like my memory, then it couldn't be the problem, because it works in this computer just fine (PQI DDR2 533 MHz)
 
Do you have a friend who you can borrow RAM from, see if that's what the problem really is? My GA-P35-DS3R has been running like a champ since I installed it.
 
A lot of people confuse RAM issues for mobo issues. The RAM just might be incompatible with the mobo. Did you get any POST code beeps?

For instance, my brother brought me a laptop from his work. The IT guy said it was a bad mobo. So, I look at the cost and the mobo is $250 plus the $120 for me to install it. Now, I, using my common sense test it out before he leaves. I power it on and get no video. I hook up an external monitor and get no video. Pull one stick of RAM and it boots. Pull that stick and put the other back in and no video.

So, instead he pays $30 for the RAM and $20 for me to install. I also told him to fire his IT guy and asked him if they hired him from the Geek Squad. ::)

I fail to see how a RAM issue would cause 2 different keyboards to freeze up and shutdown. Let alone, the RAM is not faulty, as it's obviously working in this computer I'm on right now.

I already tried the "take out one stick, try in different slots" deal. Unless the Motherboard simply doesn't like PQI 1 GB RAM sticks running at 533 MHz, then I doubt it's a RAM problem.

Re-read my post. That's exactly what I said. Why not see if Gigbyte lists what RAM is compatible and what RAM is not? Just trying to save you a head ache. If it's the RAM the RMAed mobo will have similar problem. Also, RAM issues can cause a lot of odd behavior.
 
Well I concede, it WAS my RAM. It turns out my old RAM was simply too slow, and my Motherboard couldn't very well clock the memory around to its speeds.

New memory fixed the problem. Now I just have to get around to reinstalling all 20 of my games.
