What Kind Of Computer Do You Own?Laptop?,Home?

three desktops (one is about 10 years old that im taking apart and putting back together as practice for my hardware class, the other is my slightly old HP setup with more ram and 8600GT GPU that is awaiting a heart and body transplant) with my aforementioned PC setup.

1 laptop, 4 year old dell 1.5ghz 1gb ram 60gb HDD and windows XP home and Ubuntu 9.0.4 (that you cannot find wireless programs for).

The only computer I have is a custom one built in late 2006 with Windows XP Pro, running at 2.4GHz, and a 86GB HDD, but it's in really bad shape because I don't think it will survive another year due to many reasons that I won't be mentioning here.

Well,It's official.
I have once again gotten in over my head. :lol

I have a home built rig, that I tinkered together about, I think, 7 or eight years ago. It has an AMD Thoroughbred 2.4 gig CPU and FIC motherboard running SuSE 10.0 Linux. I have two laptops, one is an old IBM Thinkpad that I have totally refurbished, with the outside case being the only thing original. Presently it is the only thing running Windows XP Pro. My other Laptop is running Xandros Linux.

I have two desktop computers, one an older Dell T850r with a Pentium III.
The second can be seen here: http://www.egameaddiction.com/forums/index.php?topic=14393.0

I also usually have my girlfriend's Toshiba Satillite laptop around for some on-the-go LAN gaming.

Ha! The pile of crap I am using at the moment has a Pentium 3. Pentium 3, 256mb RAM, integrated video, 98SE, and well, at least it has a DVD burner :lol

I was toying with the idea of trying to fix up my old computer. It has some decent add-in PCI cards already. It has room for another 256 mb of RAM (maxing out at 768 mb). Apparently, a 1.4 ghz Celeron can be adapted for use in the Pentium III slot 1 boards.

I am on the fence about if it would be worth it to upgrade the older computer. It'll never be able to play Doom 3 or anything newer unless I were to gut the board and start from scratch.

I wouldn't. Even web browsing would be painfully slow on a 1.4GHz. I would say the cut off to actually be able to do any light computing would be 1.8GHz and 500MB of RAM. Unless you plan to run a light Linux distro.

Yea I agree it's not even worth it. Even though you could probably get those parts super cheap, you'd still be putting money into a more than obsolete machine. I think it's only worth it if you play a lot of DOS games, but even so, what it is now is fine for that.
