What makes PSP appealing?

What makes PSP so appealing? When you look back at The Gameboys reign at the top of the handheld game there has been a lot of challengers to the throne. You look back at the Game gear, Lynxx, Nomad, Pocket Color all of those systems were more powerful graphically than the Gameboy but had a higher price tag and shorter battery life. Now the PSP is much stronger graphically but carries a pretty expensive price compare to the DS or the Micro. Why do you like the PSP more than the DS?

I own both and i don't like it better. The PSP is good ... but it just doesn't beat it out, mostly game wise.

I do like the PSP voice chat better... they implemented that well.

Well...I loved my PSP. I unfortunately had to sell it, but the main reason I really enjoyed it was downloading content. I could put my music on it, read comic books, browse the web, put a wallpaper on my desktop, watch videos, it was kinda like having a mini computer. Honestly, I never even used the thing for games.

I guess the fact that you have your music, games and movies all in one package. I'm still very tempted to pick one up, even though Sony won't drop the price >:(

I loved the PSP, but everytime I used it, I would have to wipe off the thumb prints all the time sadly =/ The joystick is too sensitive I thought and the D-pad is terrible with SF Alpha 3 and Darkstalkers, a real pet peeve for many fans

I love the LCD Screen and the way it looks. The games are not that great, but it is one sexy machine. I guess the nice large, bright LCD does it for me.

I guess the way the initial post was setup with the comparisons... I thought that was more of what you wanted :)

ok... what makes it more appealing? LCD, downloading, internet browser... and some othre things.

the games are not a reason.

It was beautiful graphically..had a lot of power...and then boom, no game support. Nintendo kills the PSP there, and with all the FFs coming out for the DS and GBA, you have to wonder why sony's not putting the later ones out on the psp. That would get me to play my PSP again.

Most of the people that buy it want it for the portability and the multiple functions. It's basically a mini-PS2 that they can carry with them and use for music and movies along with playing games.

The PSP has always been appealing to me technically (especially the beautiful screen) but I was not an early adopter because of the limited library of games at the time. My last handheld, the Gamepark 32 wasn't getting the play time it deserved and I was cautious to spend $$$ on a handheld again until the DS was first unveiled. My first experience on the DS was underwhelming to say the least so I decided to watch the PSP for a while...

I am on the verge of picking up a PSP value pack because of the now numerous classic compilations and I think there is also a very reasonable library of new games too. Capcom Classics Reloaded & Remixed, Sega Genesis Collection, Midway Arcade Treasures, Taito Legends Pocket & Gradius Collection all appeal to me greatly on the classic side as do current titles like New Ghosts 'N Goblins, Mega Man Powered Up, Bubble Bobble Evo, Every Extend Extra, Outrun 2006 & the FPS Coded Arms. One non-game title appeals to me - Talkman, the language based title which I was interested in from the very first news of PSP. I would say however that it is the classic compilations on the go that are the real selling point for me now. Another factor worth mentioning is that I did not become a PS2 owner so the PS2 ports on the PSP are quite welcome as far as I am concerned. That fact could turn many PS2 gamers away from it which is understandable. Lastly, PSP's interface with the PS3 sounds appealing...as a remote media viewer for the PS3 it sounds interesting enough but I would really like to see PSP games (like New GNG) be playable on the big screen using the PS3 when I want. I'll keep my eye on the news and hope this is so.

Happy gaming everyone!
