who thinks we are ready for the next gen systems?

Honestly... with the PS2 around... the cube and the Xbox never got pushed real hard..... IMO... I'd say both were at 60% maybe of what they could have done... except a few titles... that may have really pushed the limits.

Anyway... WHY do we need these new systems.... when we really haven't advanced far enough to need NEWER systems.

Post up your opinions ...etc....

Well...I would say that before I found egameaddiction.com, I did need the newer systems. However, now that I have access to any system ever made, my options just increased 100 fold.:)

But, I really love my GameCube. It is nice to have a new Zelda considering I beat just about all the others.:)

but what about the new next gen systems... Revolution, X2, and Ps3?

seriously.... does everyone think we really need these?

The new Zelda is going to hit the gamecube :D I cannot wait for that.

I really don't care.. i doubt im getting one when they come out anyway.. i don't have the money to spend on any systems right now :-\

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood you. No, I am not ready for newer systems. I only have two games for my GameCube.

I don't really want the next systems, not yet anyway. This might just be my cheapness talking, but I still don't really feel like I got my money's worth out of my Cube. I'm still waiting for some games to blow me away. I have a feeling that the new Zelda will, but I would like more than 1 title to do that. As well, like BV said, they're still a alot of interesting possibilities to be done on the current generation of hardware, and I'd like to see some developers really push these systems. In my opinion developers shouldn't keep thinking in terms of "5 years per system", they should simply let the momentum of the system determine when it's time for a new one, and with a great year planned for all systems it seems an odd time to be talking about new systems.

sad thing is that its "3-4 years per system.

it used to be 4-5.... and before that it was 5-7....

I don't know... I know advancements happen, but until we start seeing these companies do something better.... why upgrade the hardware?
just makes sense.

I know they want more $$.... and they also want a new platform to develop on... maybe its just lazy developers?

Hey,
Oh man I am so pumped for the next round of war. This time its gonna be absolutely crazy becsause all the companies know what there up against and they will be fighting as hard as ever to gain the top spot. I personally will be buying all the next gen consoles, but most of all I am looking forward to see what Microsoft and Nintendo dish up in an attempt to dethrown the "king", Sony. I just hope that Xbox 2 is not some stupid Xbox/PC hybrid that sells for 600-700$, which is what I have heard.

now that would suck $600-700?

there is no way it'd be that expensive :lol theywouldn't last very long.

They are rumors of a sort. There was an article about it in the new issue of EGM. They got their info from a site called cnnmoney.com, who said that there is a system being proposed by Microsoft, called Xbox Next PC, that would cost about $600, play Xbox and Xbox 2 games, and be able to do everything an everyday computer can do. A company spokesperson from Microsoft said that it is just an idea they're researching the marketability of.

yeah, including getting outdated every 6 weeks when new software/hardware comes out.............i dont want THAT to happen

As to the subject of this topic, I don't think the new consoles are needed yet. The GCN, Xbox and PS2 could have a much longer life span. I believe the Xbox still has a huge potential, the PS2 is still king of the hill, and the GCN is stronger than ever. Why stop now, when they've only just begun?

Maybe they just do it because they know they can. I mean, how many people are planning on buying a new system the day it launches, or shortly thereafter? Sony proved that getting the jump on the next-gen systems is a very big advantage, and seeing as how we, the gamers, will buy whatever comes out first each company feels it needs to come up with a new system faster just to stay competitive.

Well, I hope it isn't a hybrid PC. First off, the whole updating thing could be come a problem. Second off, does Microsoft really think someone buys a video game console to make spreadsheets and stuff on? Then you would have to buy a mouse and all that. I can understand playing media such as CD's and DVD's, but really, I don't think Microsoft would do something that stupid. I mean, odds are whoever buys an Xbox already has a Microsoft made computer.

that is a key phrase... because an everyday normal computer...well...sucks.... no offense intended to anyone with a normal everyday computer :lol

Exactly my point. There is no need for new systems.... they haven't even tapped the Gcn and Xbox potential. IMO PS2 is about out of life though. A lot of the new planned games run at 60 FPS on the Cube / Xbox, BUT only 30 FPS on Ps2.... its just getting old and been around longer than the Cube and Xbox.

Correct me if I am wrong. Sega proved to us that getting the jump is a bad idea. Ps2 came out how much longer than the 1st 128 bit system (Dreamcast...)?

I would say we don't need the new systems for another 2 years, maybe three.
I'd say 2 at least :) 3 is stretching it.. but you are right... we could last about 3.

Man, I'm still playing my N64. Yeah, I don't think new consolels are needed
sweet :) Same here! I love breaking out the N64.... its definitely a GREAT system to play as well. Its just overlooked by a lot of people unfortunately.

As for Xbox 2 being a PC hybrid..... I won't rule anything out at this time. There was an article about the Xbox controlling all your entertainment pieces in your house in the future.

Ps3.... they are doing more "PC style features" as well.

WHY can't we just have a video game system.. and thats it?
oh well I guess.

back to the topic... we are definitely not ready for this... and I think 3rd party people just need to start developing more... and better games. Create new engines... do whatever... and start pushing the potential of the systems. I mean..... when developers hear there is a new system coming out.. ... they do not dev as much for teh current systems in anticipation of the newer systems coming out and saving resources for that.

I just wish they would quit rushing!

Well, I guess that companies(Sony and Microsoft as of now, although the Revolution I imagine will have the ability to play DVD's and CD's) think that multiple functionalities help a system sell better. And it probablly does. The added perks aren't going to change the price drastically, and for people who don't have alot of space the additional features could be a god-send.

I really hope Nintendo does not add DVD and CD funtionality. I just don't know how many more games I could possibly need. I literally just bought my GameCube a few months or so ago.

You know what would really suck. The new Zelda gets scrapped on GameCube to be made a revolution exclusive.

Hey,
Thats the one thing I love about the cube, it plays games and thats it!! This was done by Nintendo so people could not pirate and burn games, since uh, no other device handles that format, very smart move IMO.
Ya' know, I just hate the fact that people can get the game I spend 50$ on, for free.

Anyways,
You are very right about that BV, the Xbox and GC havn't even blossomed yet while the PS2 is getting old and very dated. I think Xbox and GC could still hit huge success, even with the price drops. Games for PS2 should also be released cheaper like 35$ or 30$. I just can't warrant a reason to pay 50$ for a game anymore, unless it's like Zelda, Halo 2, etc, etc. Just in general man, 50$ is simply to much money to spend on a game. God I wonder how much games will be for the new consoles considering there 50$ now...............
