Ok, so I've recently added some peoples friend codes, but it's been a day since and their names are still grey. They all have mine as well. Does this usually take a while to fully register someone?

Yeah, I think it takes a day or something. I've had that issue as well.
The first thing to do though is double check and make sure you got the number correct.
