Wii to overtake 360 sales in America, too

After months of overtaking the 360's overall sales, it's now bent on taking the US sales lead, as well.

Barring some unforeseen change to the industry landscape, the Wii will inevitably overtake the 360 in sales. But I'm not sure if it will be able to do it as soon as the article says. It doesn't say whether or not the analyst took into account boosted system sales coinciding with the release of GTA IV. It is also heavily rumored that the lowest priced 360 will go down in price to match that of the Wii's, which could also drastically change the 360's selling rate.

Time will tell.

But people who've actually looked at the 360 realize that the memory card the core system comes with sucks, so I'm not sure it'll boost it that much.

The people the Arcade (new name) is trying to target aren't really worrying about hard-drive and probably won't use the 360 enough to even fill up the memory card.

I'm just not sure the 360 is as...simple as the Wii. Like, how many times will you hear a nursing home's bought a 360 so the residents can play Hexic?

I'm not saying it's as successful as the Wii in tapping into the casual market, but with games like Uno, and XBL arcade, as a whole, it is trying to attract casual gamers, and the Arcade reflects that.

Yeah, and I understand that, but I'm not sure how many people will walk into a store and take it over the Wii even if it's the same price. I just think it's trying to reach a market it's never caught the attention of, and they should have done something...simpler first.

I just noticed I seem to put ellipses before simple a lot in this topic.

the 360 is pretty simple too... but IMO the interface SUCKS!!

the Wii has a pretty good interface... and so does the PS3. I don't think the 360 has a good interface. But ... I'm sure people will disagree.

NOW... um... hasn't the Wii been ahead of the 360 for sometime? I thought the Wii was outselling the 360 for awhile now.

What exactly do you mean by interface? Do you mean the cross-media bar and XBL marketplace, or are you talking about something completely different?

The Wii has been the leader in worldwide, cumulative (and monthly) sales for quite a while now, but the 360 still has a narrow lead in North America, in terms of total sales.

Yeah, the Wii is leading in the sales Cherry mentioned. The Wii sells about 700k units(100% of those shipped) every month, add that on top of the 39% planned increase in development, and that ends up being just short of a million every month.
