Yoshi's Touch 'n Go...and Pokemon Dash!

Two of the best games for the DS to date came out today. Aside from Warioware and Mario 64, there really hasn't been much to look forward to (although Mr. Driller and Zookeeper are fun, they're not quite up there with any of the best games ever, same with feel the magic) but the new games that came out today really utilize the touch screen, or both screens, which makes for fun gameplay.

Yoshi's Touch 'n Go is weirder than I thought, and harder than I thought (I *have* only played it once so far), though I'm sure the challenge will diminish as I get used to drawing the path and such. Right now it's fun and difficult, as I try to go through the little world. It's not a sequel to Yoshi's Island as I originally thought it was, though the graphics are in that sorta vein. There was supposed to be a "balloon trip" to come out for the system, but instead it looked like that was comibined with this game into the first section, which is pretty short, as you play baby mario falling down and collecting coins. After that, you're somewhat in control of Yoshi who marches to the right. Like I said, it's odd at first, but there's no story..you just go until you die, trying to get as many points or coins as possible in one part, or yards in another. Pretty darn fun, though the gameplay's a little slow at times. Still, this is one of the most unique games I've ever seen. With action in the top screen as well as the bottom..it's really the first game to use both screens where one isn't a stats screen or something similar. You start with two modes of gameplay (one for collecting coins, one for gaining "yards") and then you can unlock more as you get "first place" in both of those.

Second is Pokemon Dash. I was reluctant to get this becuase I figured...*another* mariokart kinda rip off where you just touch the screen and go around a track? But that's hardly the case. The gameplay is more complicated than it looks as you have to traverse water in hot air balloons and dive back down to the ground which make you have to learn the maps and guestimate as to where you're going. At the same time, there's different terrains you have to run across which add a challenge to the game. I only played through the first cup in the sorta novice gp one so far, which wasn't too difficult after I got the hang of it, but this game really is so much fun. Despite my initial reluctance, I bet this will become my favorite game for the system until the new Super Mario comes out or something cool like that.

Both games are primarily for the touch screen, which is sooo cool. I love the touch screen and am glad to see it utilized, as I thought it would hardly be used except with strange minigames. If nintendo has weeks like this, it'll really give the PSP a run for its money, but so far, I've only been really excited twice..getting Warioware, and now today. Honestly, I think these are up there as the best games for the system to date with the possible exception of warioware. As I get bored of the games, I'll rank them later for you :) Hope my mini-reviews helped. Go out and buy them so we can play wireless when the deal comes out!!! :)

nice little post here :)

I haven't really read into these 2 games. So they are good, eh?

like you, I do like the touch screen.. it makes the DS very unique... and I like that in a hand held. I mean.... why buy a handheld if its going to be the same as a home console. Now, I would still like to see some N64 ports here and there :)

Pokemon dash sounds fun! I gotta try that.

The games are totally based on the touch screen. They're fun, but they do get old a little quickly. I'm still playing them, so...I do reccomend them.

Yoshi Touch & Go is addictive.

It seems really simple and perhaps even boring at first. You're basically just drawing clouds for Baby Mario to fall on; and then drawing bubbles around enemies to make coins when you're playing as Yoshi.

But then it gets really addictive as you get better and better. And it's actually a lot of fun to play. It's one of those easy to learn, hard to master kind of games. The fact that it records your score makes you want to keep trying until you make it on the scoreboard at #1.

I rented it and the first time I played I was unimpressed. I was almost going to take it back the next day. But then I forgot to take it back, and the day after that I took it to work with me to play on my breaks and lunch, and found out how addicting it was. Especially if you play the Marathon part, which is challenging. It takes you through several levels and the point is to get as far as you can without dying.

Overall I think Yoshi Touch & Go is one of the better DS games available.

I hear Kirby: Canvas Curse is even better, though, so if you're short on money or something, I would probably hold off for the Kirby game.
