155 Circuit City stores close [UPDATE 1/16] STORE CLOSURE! All 567 Stores going!

Nope, it doesn't. Right now, they're trying to make their money back, so expect MSRP on all of their merchandise. Towards the end, if there's anything left, then they'll have a huge sale. It's no longer like the old days where, "Everything must go!"

have you confirmed this? heck has anyone confirmed that the stores are having sales or not? because i really want to know.... (though my circuit city store is not near me and i have no car so.... i can't confirm it myself)

No one can confirm until tomorrow when the "sale" starts. But according from many reports at consumerist.com and other sites, the liquidation team that they have chosen doesn't necessarily do "huge sales". If nothing is selling, then they will drop the price even more later to get rid of it. That's why the "huge sales" don't really start immediately. You can check if you want, but don't expect big discounts.

according to cheapassgamer.com, they are starting at 10-15% off all games tomorrow. Yet, as the weeks progress, it will continue to grow higher.

Further proof:

Liquidation sales begin as early as Saturday, January 17, 2009, and will last as long as it takes to sell through the merchandise at each of the stores. We expect the sales to wrap up by the end of March 2009.

How much will merchandise be marked down, and can customers negotiate prices for the merchandise?
There will be clearance pricing, but specific discounts are not being announced. All sale prices are at the discretion of the liquidator. Prices are non-negotiable and all adjustments must be approved by the liquidator's on-site managers.

No, they're done. They're completely liquidating the company according to Wikipedia. Some of the stores might be bought by Best Buy and the like, but Circuit City will no longer exist.

Are you also shutting down your operations in Canada?

* No, our Canadian operations will continue. They are not affected by the liquidation of Circuit City's U.S. operations. The Canadian operations employ approximately 3,000 associates.

By Liquidation Sale, they mean that the Liquidators are now in charge of the prices and policies. Not that there will be a huge sale. Games I can see them doing a discount since it's software, but hardware will be a different story.

Hmm, Z&W for $13 is a good deal. I might pick that up for my niece and nephew. What were the prices for like TV's and Home Theater? Did you have a chance to look?

TV's are at 10% off

Also, the games have reached 20% off by the afternoon on that same day.

So far, it's going fast.

This article explains the chaos.

Ours made a nice mistake, it lasted for a day only. 20% off all games on last Saturday, which kicked in around 12pm, they corrected the mistake on Sunday.

Sadly, the awesome sell is more of a "Lack of price drops" it seems.
