I know how to protect my files and other information but for those of you dont, you should, because you might be sharing personal information and not know it. Anyways im sure a lot of you here are tech savvy so this is for people who dont know how to use these types of programs or know how they work.

Wow! Well I think I am very cautious with how I share things on the internet. I have a seperate pc just for downloading stuff.

@Creep Any advice to protect other computers though

What do you mean Ares? Other computers you own? You can protect them by checking to see which files on the computer are being shared, then turning the sharing off. It depends on the program. And make sure if you have important files on your computer, take the necessary precaution of encrypting them so that hackers cant access them, and put them in some type of password protected folder. Oh and when you are done downloading make sure you turn the program off so that others cant access your computer, and always scan the files you just downloaded for viruses.

I have a seperate computer that I do all my downloading on, then I transfer anything over to my laptop after I virus check and make sure it is ok. I think it is pretty safe. Anything I should do instead?

This is what I do:

I only buy cd's of bands that I extrememly like.

(ex. Rolling Stones, Queen, Boston, etc.)

Everything else I borrow cds from friends and upload them onto itunes.

Then If I really want a song but cant get it, then I download it.

I havent really been downloading that much latley. Probably around a song or two a month.

yeah i support the groups that i like but anything else i burn..

i know this is irelavan but were is royce? when i first came to the boards he was burning it up.. but i aint seen him in a while

my thought exactly. I havent talked to him forever. I think Im going to send him a message on myspace.

I don't download :)

BUT does it have to be through a program? There are other ways as well

Yeah of course you can get hacked. I think the purpose of this article is to show that hacking isnt the only way and that you should always take the proper precautions when dealing with the internet.

@Ares; You're doing everything right. Just make sure you have some type of firewall up and you should be ok.

blu do you buy all your media?
Lets just say, everything I have is original.

no burns, no roms, etc.... If I want it, I buy it...... if I can't afford it... I don't get it till I can.

i dont really download much music or anything anymore, but when i do, i do it on my old computer so i dont have to risk it (that computer is already loaded with spyware anyway)

:lol I haven't been using a firewall or a viruscan for over a year. Well, that's not true, we did just get a new one of each installed, but up until a week or two ago, I was completely "unprotected".

only use bit torrent, mIRC, and ftp's.
peer guardian+firefox+mcafee has kept me safe for a long while.
