Amazon.com

Anyone try to get the Amazon.com $100 xbox 360. They were selling 1000 units at $100 a piece. My computer wouldnt even load Amazon until 15 minutes after the sell started. And then they were all sold out.

Core. It was way too good to be true. The sell was suppose to start at 11:00 PST and i got on and from 10:55-11:15 PST the site was down. Total scam. Only a few 'claim' to have gotten one.

There's no way they could've sold 1000 units for $100 in 10 minutes. Especially when half of the customers could not even load the site. Will never buy from amazon.

Yes there is. It happens on any retail site that has huge sales. Ives seen it happen and Ive gotten lucky a few times. The reason the site couldn't be loaded is because it was hit hard by everyone who wanted to buy one. This sale was around the entire internet for over a week, Im sure more than a 1000 customers actually tried to log on.

you're saying that out of everyone who tried to get this ( and i agree there were probably millions trying to log on ) that 1000 people could load the page and the other 999,000 people couldn't. It just smells like a scam to me. If the server was too busy for most people, how could it not be for 1000 people.

Your logic is a little flawed. Could it have been a scam? Possibly, but the site did get hit very hard. How do you know that only 1000 were able to log on? You agree that there could have been millions who logged on. Do you know how much pressure their servers took from that? Im surprised the site was still up. A hit like that can cripple a web site. I can guarantee you that more than 1000 were able to log on. But only a 1000 can buy one.

That's just how it goes. I remember recently I was on Eastbay.com to buy a pair of Jordans. I was lucky enough to get a pair, but literally a minute later they were all sold out. It happens and unfortunately not everyone is lucky, (ie. connection is too slow, web site getting hit hard, etc. etc.) Way too many factors to solely blame amazon on how it was hard to log on.

That's crazy for websites to even do offers like that then.
maybe... but it can happen.  If their server cannot handle the load (and trust me... Amazon.com has tens of thousands of normal customers on at any one time.)  If a couple hundred thousand are clicking furiously to get in... I wouldn't doubt the problems. amazon.com isn't the fastest website in the world either.

Crazy though.  I wonder if they really sold out though.  No way to tell for sure.
