It is a Half Life gaming network basically. Steam is available for free at steampowered.com

You do have to have a Half Life CD Key to play though. Pick up the Half Life platinum pack, its worth it and has all the CD keys you'll need.

BTW: you dont need to buy the platinum pack anymore, just buy silver edition HL2 and you'll get all of valve's back library (HL1, DOD, CS 1.6 etc.) and recive DOD:Source, HL1:Source, CS:Source and HL2 all for 60 bux :P
 
old topic and all... but did the friends list ever work? It just started to work within the last couple months for me upon a newer update.

Crazy stuff.... I'll have to repost it sometime... but there was a weird Half Life 2 game name on there.... and I wasn't sure what it was. It seemed to be playable or something, even though I don't have it to play.

Friends list works now, they finally finished the beta.

There's a free weekend of Day of Defeat that started at 1PM PST today and ends 1PM PST on Monday.

^Bah, you don't know what you're talking about. DoD is far superior to CS :p

I never play CS, I play DoD all the time, so of course I'll say that.

Yeah, Half-Life 2 is a great game. Make sure to get addicted to Day of Defeat as well, as Counter Strike is the sux0rz and only losers play it :p
