My little brother bought KOF MI last night, and I got to play it some today. The game is actually very good, I was totally surprised! It still feels like a 2D game for the most part. All the old school classic moves/combos are still in there, with an addition to a chain combo type system..which at first I hated, but after about 15 minutes I really got into it. The graphics are some of the best I've seen on a PS2 game, comparable to soul caliber 2, which I would say is a benchmark on the PS2.
It has various costumes for the characters which is really cool as well, for instance you can have Terry in his Garou outfit or the classic one..with about 3 variations of each costume. The win poses, and match up poses are still there like in previous 2D KOF games, the game has a good bit of voice acting, more so than any previous KOF's. The only real gripe I have with it is that it should have had more original characters, and more characters in general. Its a small amount of characters considering past KOF games, and 6 are totally new characters.
The music is pretty good as well, and the backgrounds are classic SNK with several SNK characters making cameo appearences in the background. The game has some really nice animation, very smooth and fluid..hardly any slowdown at all. And the DM's look amazingly cool in 3D I might add.
I expected this game to be a disaster, and I usually snub my nose at any 3D fighting game..but really this one has surprised me alot, I'm glad I'll be gatting it for X-mas now after all.
