Anyone know any good hard questions for us all?

Just for fun... it doesn't really belong in the Fun & Games category...

If someone were to climb the slant (c) of a right triangle 4.5m long, and that triangle had a height (a) and length (b) of 1m, what was the angle made between the slant (c) and one of the other sides (a or b) to the nearest metre?

That's the best one I can think of. Post if you think you know the answer, and give us yours!

That is an impossible triangle.  Remember, two sides of a triangle must always add up to be longer than the remaining sides (sorry for the bad definition).  1+1 is not larger than 4.5, so the triangle is not possible to make.
When did angles become measured in metres? I always thought they were degrees... :?

I think the a,b, and c represent numbers.

All I know is that its Trigonometry, and that its cosine (COS). I'd need a calculator to figure it out though.

I might've read the question wrong.  From what I read, you're saying that the triangle has sides 4.5, 1, and 1 and you're trying to figure out the other two angles.  If so, there's no way that triangle can be made.  If, however you mean that the triangle has sides A=4.5, B=1, and C=X and angles a=90º b=xº and c=yº, then X would have to be 4.387482194.  This makes angle x=12.83958841º and angle y=77.1604459º.

There's the answers you wanted   :D  And just to let you know, I've never been called recky before, but it's not a bad nickname...  :D

Lol xD

I found another good one... let's see if we can get an answer for this (found at a trivia site, it's not homework):

A thief was tired of the small change he was getting from the cashiers at the Bank, so he broke in one night to raid the vault. When he got there, he came to a combination lock on the vault, with the dial numbers going from 0 to 59. Now, he wasn't sure whether there were three or four numbers in the combination, or even which direction to turn the wheel.

If it takes him 15 seconds to try a single combination, how many days will it take him to to try every possible combination?

2250 days, or about 6 years.
^Original answer
4500 days, or about 12 years.
^Edited answer (to include different ways to turn knob)

If you're riding in a cement canoe and the wheels fall off, how many pancakes does it take to shingle a dog house? :p

We need another real question.  And/or someone else who feels like answering them.

20.

Exactly, no more or less.

Aside from that, I've yest to think up of a hard one. If it were easy enough to input the ice sliding puzzles from Alundra to here I would (like in ASCII)

Here's one, its easy but anyway.

One night at work, the guard had a dream he planted a bomb in the factory. The next day, he told his boss. The guard was promptly fired. Why?

I'd say either because he has a history of sleepwalking, or because its the next day and the place is already blown up.

Here's one some people have trouble getting:

A boy and his father are coming home from a camping trip. On their way home, the old "the car is stuck on the train tracks" bit happens, while a train is coming. They don't get out in time, and are hit by the train. The father dies on impact, but the kid lives, but is badly injured and is in need of surgery. However, when the suregeon comes to perform surgery on the kid, the surgeon says "I can't operate on him, he's my son".

Some people might get it instantly.

hey... cool topic... you all are using your brains :)

What speed would you have to be going at to be going at 1 mile per second?
Lets say you are flying into a headwind of 10 mph.

enjoy ;)

2 for you

1. A person is found hanging in a room with a suicide note..except the room has a very high ceiling, the chap is swinging 3 metres clear from the floor..and there is absolutely nothing else in the room except a very wet floor, no ladders, tables chairs etc etc. How did the chap get himself up there?? (Easy btw)

2. Wonderman the great escapologist is about to perform his greatest escape yet...so he's locked in a room, a very secure room too, which happens to be in the middle of nowhere. There is no way out. No window, no door key, no air vent etc. All there is in the room is the great Wonderman and a little wooden chair for him to sit on....no nail file, no mate to come with a cake full of tools, nothing, nadda diddly jack squat. (and he doesn't have anything on his person either except clothes of course) A day later his jailers turn up and he's gone...but how?

He got up there by standing on an ice cube?
