Artistically Pleasing Games

I didn't really care about any of the other rankings, I just was going to be angry if Okami wasn't number 1. That is the most artistically beautiful game I have ever played. Ever.

Prince of Persia shouldn't be there since it's not finished yet imho.

However, where's Viewtiful Joe? Plus, if they wanna include PoP, why not Gears of War 2? Okami I totally agree on.

Where's BioShock? That game still impresses me on the shadowing and lighting effects.

Killer 7 is missing...that was a visually sweet game.

No Tales of Symphonia? Tales of Vesperia? Not even Silent Hill 2's amazing CG??

Heavenly Sword anyone? That was a visual masterpiece.

Psychonauts should be on there as well.... And dang I need Okami!

X2 hit it on the nail, Psychonauts was another masterpiece. One I remember just now, is Indigo Prophecy on Xbox and PS2. That game was un-freakin'-believable!

I thought of some to add. I think No More Heroes and Hotel Dusk Room 215 are very artistically pleasing. ^_^

Myst is old and the graphics don't hold up today, but when it first came out it was almost breathtaking. The attention to detail was fantastic.

Amen to that! The original Myst should have been there, also Abe's Odyesse and Abe's Exodus too!

No More Heroes most def. I haven't seen Hotel Dusk Room 215, but heard many good things :)

They just released another run of Hotel Dusk Room 215, so now is your chance to pick it up. It's only $20. ^_^ That reminds me, I actually need to rebuy it, since I let a friend borrow it and he lost it. :-\

If they're throwing in games that aren't released yet (PoP), then I think LBP should be up there as well. I'm happy to see Eternal Sonata getting some recognition as well.

i agree with you there, but Odin sphere should be up there as well

ICO could be on a list like that as well. Is Odin Sphere cel-shaded, or is just really pretty? {yet another game I need grrr}.

is not really cel-shaded is just pretty xD, the game itself is moving artwork (just like okami, except in 2D)

I don't really see why Team Fortress 2 is on that list. It's a fitting stylistic choice, not a particularly noteworthy one.

I also don't think Wind Waker should be on that list either. There are better examples of cel-shading, and in contrast to TF2 the art style was not fitting for the subject matter (debatable, I know).

However, "artistically pleasing" is kind of a weak category. Are we talking strictly visuals, or are we talking story, characters, sound, and so forth? As well, when they say "pleasing" do they mean calming, unique, appropriate, interesting, etc?

I also think the author of the article meant "aesthetically pleasing," as "art" isn't always meant to please its observer. "Hailtothegun"'s inability to articulate what the hell he's top-tenning makes analyzing his choices relatively nocuous.

for some reason i thought you would say that about Wind Waker XD, honestly it did surprise me wind waker was there because while it's a BEAUTIFUL game i think ToV has a better cel-shaded style, but oh well i guess they just don't like Anime art style, and i guess this is more about visual design rather than which one actually has better graphics (don't think i get it myself but read the reason for prince of persia)

Windwaker was the second title that popped into my head after Okami when I read the title of this thread.

Oh yeah, I just remembered this one. Jet Set Radio Future and Jet Set Grind from Sega. One of the first cel-shaded games. Why wasn't added?
