Bioshock...

11th Brigade = Death
Its come to my attention that not everybody likes the Bioshock game, i think the term "sucked monkey nuts" has even been used to describe it...

I feel that its a perfect game all around, and to avoid clogging threads with discussion about it i figured id start this one, so please explain why you did your didn't like Bioshock. *WARNING, MAY BE SPOILERS FOR THE GAME*

I think the storyline was fantastic, the idea of someone doing what Adam Ryan did is so genius i wish i would have thought of it.
The Plasmids add a special feel to the game that ive never felt in any other, i mean come on, what cooler then covering you enemy in fire, sending a swarm of bees after them, then freezing them and shattering them with a wrench? nothing thats what...
The graphics were award worthy.
The AI wasn't the smartest, but it fit the types of enemies you faced, crazy people..lol

The game has so many other great qualities, but my fingers hurt so im done typing

Well, I liked Bioshock, but honestly, everything that everyone said was so revolutionary about it was stuff that had been done before. It's just the way it was put together that made Bioshock awesome. It was very polished.

Taking pictures to research your enemies? That was already done last gen in a very underrated Ubisoft game: Beyond Good & Evil. You could also argue that taking pictures in general was done in Pokemon Snap on the N64, and possibly before that (although I can't think of any myself besides those two). Reaching even further, taking pictures to learn your enemies weaknesses could be compared to Samus scanning her enemies in Metroid Prime.

Plasmids? In X-Men Legends I could play as Magma and set people on fire, or Iceman if I wanted to use ice. In Oblivion I could use magic for the same effect. Plasmids = Mutant Powers = Magicka.

Upgradeable weapons? In recent memory Oblivion covers that. I took a daedric sword and put disintegrate armor enchantments on it. Isn't that the same as upgrading a shotgun to do more damage? :)

Good (rescuing Little Sisters) and evil (harvesting them) paths leading to different endings? Fable, Knights of the Old Republic.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Bioshock, but I just didn't feel like it was as revolutionary as everyone thought.

She wasn't exactly comparing but saying how things in BioShock were used by other games before this one. Xmen is an example of the basics of a Plasmid but not exactly a Plasmid...

No, I mean seriously, do you think the developers of Bioshock sat down and said "They did this in X-men, and it was cool, so lets do it."

I know I don't.

Do you think they sat down and said, "Hey, people hold guns in real life, and it's cool, so let's do it."? No. They did it because it's a shooter. Just because you can compare it doesn't mean it came from that.

But maybe they sat down and said, "You know if Iceman was in a first person shooter he could freeze people, and then shooting them with the shotgun would make them explode into icy bits!"

I can't prove that they used X-Men as inspiration, but you can't prove that they didn't.

The entire game was all hipe the game traliers were all sweet and I wanted to play the game but after seeing my friend play it no the game was crappy

But there's more a chance of them doing it than not.

Yup nothing revolutionary about BioShock. I remember some people were harping about how open-ended it was, heck some even call call it a sandbox first person shooter. Yeah sure, there are many ways to play the the game like go at it like a standard shooter using guns, pistols, etc, use plasmid attacks (which is basically a fancy term for magic attacks)exclusively or even play the whole game using nothing but your mighty wrench. Nothing sandbox about it plus the game is pretty linear too.

However, its a well made first person shooter. I totally love the first level as it was so frickin creepy! The atmosphere in the game is simply terrific. Too bad the ending blows :( Anyway Bioshock's a classic!

Just beat this game last night, and I must say, I'm thoroughly impressed. The shooting was average, and you ran out of ammo rather quickly, but this game isn't "just a shooter."

The characters and story were fantastic. The twist near the end was awesome, and I never expected it. Big daddies have to be the coolest video game character of all time, and little sisters were awesome too. I think if you ignore the bits of "unoriginal," or "mundane," the overall package adds up to an incredible package. A work of art, really.

The city of rapture is both breathtaking and creepy. I loved learning about it and all of the bad things that happened to it.

I don't think it should have been up for game of the year, as it doesn't top Halo 3 in my eyes, but is nevertheless a must-play.

It's a survival shooter, you have to conserve ammo whenever possible.

Am I the only one who ended up with a ton of ammo because I saved like crazy?

I think so Cherry. But I guess it depended on the weapon, too. I ran out of shotgun ammo all the time, but I pretty much always had ammo for the pistol.
