Bnet and "gem activated?" - In Diablo 2

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS? In Diablo 2.... there is a gem in the middle (bottom middle) of the screen. Its a blue gem. If you click it, it says "Gem Activated."

WHAT does that do?

this is all battle.net says about it:

What is the function of the Gem in the Diablo II Battle.net Chat room?
When it has been clicked once, it activates -- causing a blue glow to appear through the Gem. When it is clicked again, it deactivates and the glow disappears. Rarely a perfect gem activation will occur instead of the usual Gem activation

still.. it doesn't say what it does... and what happens with a perfect gem activation? :? :huh

It doesn't do anything, it was suppose to be some kind of feature when it was released and got scrapped from what I've read, so they just didn't take it out from the release, so yeah

really? it does nothing?

I wonder if it does something ... like an easter egg... they just don't state that.

Where did you hear that Pliknon?

I have no clue, probably on battle.net forums, I used to read those all the time. think one of the mod's posted that once too

I know.. bumping another old topic... and I know that the gem does nothing for now... BUT what was it going to be?

I've searched on Bnet.... and I find people asking about it... but nothing really directly or indirectly talking about what it was going to do...etc.

I've wondered that myself...no clue.

I'd ask in one of the channels, but God knows everyone in there is a moron.
that and I would ask as well... but I don't particularly feel like getting flamed and called a noob... even though I've been playing on bnet since it was created. :lol

Curiously enough, there is a gem just like this in Warcraft 3's campaign editor in the lower right hand corner....

That one may have a function but I'm not (though I wish I was) familiar with the War3 campaign editor. Its way different than StarEdit.

Small but you should be able to see the "Gem Activated, Gem Deactivated" and the arrow pointing to the gem.
