Re: Bungie responds to loss of Halo 2's Xbox Live gamplay

i sort of feel saddened and pissed about these news..... i mean it is true i don't really like the halo franchise (or XBOX live for that matter) but i can't help but feel sad for the people who still play this game online

Re: Bungie responds to loss of Halo 2's Xbox Live gamplay

I guess this makes me a bad person, but I say it's good that Microsoft is doing this. It's about time people moved on from playing Halo 2. Halo 3 isn't the same thing but a good player would learn to adapt IMO.

Re: Bungie responds to loss of Halo 2's Xbox Live gamplay

Agreed, it's time to move on. Now it will help the bandwidth on many games, plus give Xbox Live users the ability have more than 100 friends on their list.

Re: Bungie responds to loss of Halo 2's Xbox Live gamplay

Looks like another move to force xbox owners to buy a 360.

Re: Bungie responds to loss of Halo 2's Xbox Live gamplay

Ya know, I still play Quake online time to time. That is right, the original ID Quake game that was released over a decade ago.

Oh yeah, and I play Starcraft too.

I am glad that I don't pay for a premium online gaming service that drops games I play.

I bet, however, that Microsoft still considers linking an xbox through IP addresses instead of xbl an offense to them though... Grrr.. whatever...

Re: Bungie responds to loss of Halo 2's Xbox Live gamplay

Man I dunno, Halo 2 does not even seem very old at all. I still play, and highly enjoy, the original Halo online for PC. But whatever, I guess it's time to for Halo 2 fans to just "move on"...

It's not much different than Nintendo having a DS and a DSi and making some games that only work on a DSi.

Every company has business practices like that. There's no reason to single out Microsoft for something that Sony and Nintendo do as well.

And in any case, no one is forcing anyone to buy any of the systems. If people playing Halo 2 don't want to play Halo 3 instead on a 360, they don't have to.

Re: Bungie responds to loss of Halo 2's Xbox Live gamplay

I agree, Mai. I do not think it's a ploy to get people to buy a 360, but I think Halo 2 players have every right to be legitimately pissed. Halo 2 players are basically what made live what it is today and they are pretty much responsible for the 360's success. But I guess it is what it is and there's no use griping about it. And for the record, I am not singling MS out. If you see by some of my recent posts I am not really happy with any of the 3 companies this gen.

Normally I would agree, but I think most are already on 360's because they were probably already hyped about Halo 3.

I agree with that. I didn't mean to sound so callous about it.

Agreed, if they were to let Halo 2 live (Hey get it? Live/live? *Crickets chirping*) I wouldn't have a problem with it, since I don't know any other classic Xbox game treated this well.

@Mai, I don't think you were callous about it at all, you know how it is and it was plain to see that it's time to say goodbye to Halo 2.

A ploy? I would say no. Xbox 1 support has been gone for a long time now.

I don't know. That's like saying most PS2 owners already have a PS3 cause they're hyped about God of War or Gran Turismo.

Re: Bungie responds to loss of Halo 2's Xbox Live gamplay

@Strubes, it's funny you mention that. Many people still harp about PS3 not playing PS2 games. (Like myself :lol)

Heck, I met a gentlemen today at Wal-Mart, who was an employee that heard the 250GB PS3 actually plays PS2 games. I told him, it does not since I own one. I just want to know who told him that information to be honest.

Yet, the transition of moving from PS2 to PS3 has been a hard road. Creepin and myself know for a fact that when Halo 3 was ready for release during 2007, people at many trade-in game retailers were bombarded with massive trade-ins of original Xbox systems and Halo 1 and 2 games. If I had a dime for every copy of Halo 1 and 2 that was traded in between June until late September of 2007, I could estimate about $32.50 since we did inventory shortly after the launch.

lol my point exactly. With this logic, are a ton of people going to be trading in PS2's and God of War 1 and 2 for a PS3 and God of War 3?

Kind of but not really. Halo was the premiere franchise for a long time up until Halo 3, whereas Sony had a lot more (eg. Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, GoW, GT, etc.) So most people would be buying a PS3 for the other franchises as well.

Halo is pretty much what made the Xbox and XBL.

So true, Halo 2 birthed the Xbox Live imho.

Re: Bungie responds to loss of Halo 2's Xbox Live gamplay

True, Halo 2 did make Xbox Live what it is today. But idk, just seems like a way to force more people into the next gen era.
