When it comes to video games,are generic versions of "Memory Cards","Controllers",Cables etc. truly inferior and unreliable?Myself I believe they are,a friend of mine just bought a "PS3" and wanted to get some backup cables,so he asked me the same question I'm asking you.I figured I'd run it by you guys first to see what your take is on the subject,before I tell him what I think.

Thank you.

Cables? I think on cables you are ok with getting non first-party brands. It's mostly memory cards and controllers that you should always get first party if you can.

I concur. Thank you Sheena. :)

For my Cube, PSX and PS2, I never purchased any first-party memory cards. And I have never had any issues when it comes to corrupt memory. I guess I was just lucky. So why would this be different with cables?

Yeah, I think you are lucky. I had a non-first party memory card for my PSone, and when I tried to save FFVII files on it, it wouldn't recognize the card at all. So I just went out and bought a Sony memory card.

Controllers can be ok, I just prefer first party. Unless they are not available, like Sony never made wireless controllers for the PS2, so I got the Logitech ones. But Logitech is more reliable than Pelican or Madcatz anyway.

Cadillac's Vs. Pintos...I guess I'm missing how they connect with memory cards. I'm sure there's some kind of allusion in there, but my brain simply can't make the connection.

First party is always your best bet for all of those, but third party accessories can be good, but it's really a case to case basis.

Cadillac = high quality.
Pinto = junk quality.
