Can Modding Your PS3 or 360 Corrupt it's functiong?

Hi Members,

I was just curious.Can "Modding" your PS3 or 360 corrupt it's functioning?With my limited computer knowledge I'd say in the long term,maybe.

Sometimes, if you mod a 360. As soon as you go online with it, I heard Microsoft will brick it or kick it offline.
 
Yep, Microsoft will detect that you've modded your 360 and "mark" your console so you can never go online with it again.
 
Modding I really don't know about with PS3 but, you can do other things like installing Linux and such and Sony has used that function in some of their ads.
