Cancer victim's PSP stolen on way to chemotherapy..the day before his birthday!

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/30/thieves-steal-7-year-old-cancer-patients-psp-the-day-before-his/

If you're looking for a news story to restore your faith in mankind, this ain't it -- while en route to a monthly chemotherapy treatment for a brain tumor (the day before his birthday, no less), 7-year-old Kyle Springs and his family stopped in Dallas for a Denny's breakfast. As they left the building, with unassuming bellies full of Moons Over My Hammies, they discovered their car had been burglarized, and that thieves had absconded with Kyle's backpack, medical records, medication, and PSP.

The only uplifting facet of this otherwise soul-shattering tale is the fact that the Dallas police department had raised over $1,000 for Kyle within two and a half hours, replacing the PSP and games that he had lost in the parking lot heist. Unfortunately, the nefarious gentlemen who made off with the young man's handheld have yet to be brought to justice -- what kind of sentence do they assign people who steal adolescent cancer patient's portable electronics the day before their birthdays, anyways? Does Texas allow "jettisoning from an airlock into the infinite twilight of space" as an acceptable punishment?

The only good part is in bold. Seriously, I'm doubting the thieves knew about the kid's situation, but it's a terrible situation to be in.

Good lord, what the hell is wrong with this world of ours? Sick son of a...:( I hope he rots knowing who's PSP he stole.

Well, the kid's medical records were also in that backpack, according to the article. So not only did they get his PSP, but they have access now to stuff they probably shouldn't, such as his social security number and whatever other information is put onto medical records.

Karma will come back some day and kick the thief in the butt, though, I'm sure of it.

Yeah but the thing is like you said you shouldn't be stealing in the first place haha. That is terrible though.

Aw, right when I read that, I started scouring ebay for a cheap psp that I could repair for the little tyke. Then I read the article and stopped. Good he got something back.

i lost my faith in humanity a week and a half ago, this just strengthens my decision. i saw this horrific car wreck (thank god everyone was unhurt), i was the third car back from this accident and the two cars before me just swerved around the accident and kept on going while i pulled over to see if everyone was OK. the car who caused it fled the scene. people disgust me.

my god that is horrible and they stole his med and medical records and mean once they started reading his medical record I hope they atleast felt BAD. >:(

Well, this sucks. It is further proof that the heart of humanity is evil. I am just glad that the Dallas Police Department were able to overcome a bad situation and make the boy's day brighter.
