City of the Dead...

Figured I'd post this in several forums...

City of the Dead, a game based on George Romero's Of the Dead universe but not following any of the particular movies, is due out sometime for Xbox, PS2, and PC. March 31, 2006 is the estimate, which sucks. Anyways, too lazy to post the details now, but lemme put it in a nutshell.

-Online and split screen co-op
-Tons of Zombies-only zombies, only former humans (no stupid mutant monkey dog demons)
-Little story other than zombies have taken over the world, you choose 1 of 5 people (including Tom Savini!) to try to survive the hordes of the undead. Characters appearances are dynamic and have different, and changing, stats.
-None of Resident Evils patented retarded get the 40 keys spread all over places you've already been to open the wooden door instead of shooting the dumb lock puzzles.
-Awesome physics, ragdoll too, use the environment to kill and slow down the zombie hordes.
-Free raoming, not objective based gameplay. No areas need to be unlocked.
-Supposed to be other survivors you can meet and save.
-Co-op has a cool feature, the infection meter. Once it is full, the palyer becomes a zombie, and can kill other players (can't wait to see how it works) ala RE:Outbreak.
-Others can see your infection meter, meaning they can let you live and take help as long as possible or kill you to save their skin.
-Weapons announced-Pistol, Shotgun, Machine gun, and Sniper Rifle.
-Weapons are upgradable, at least for melee attacks (Example: Shotgun gets a shovel attachment, pistols get spiked brass knuckles)
-Locations include, as of now, a city (duh), a mall, an airport, a laboratory, a hospital, a gas station, and a farmhouse style area?

Also, with a release date so far in the future, graphics are sure to improve, and I'm sure more game modes will be added. Maybe a FFA survival fest? Or a take as many down with you as you can gametype? Who knows? All I can say is I'm pyshced for this game beyond belief.

I'll update this later, hopefully.

Did you read the first sentence?

Of course, but their was rumors it was going to take place after the "Dawn of the Dead". Thus "Land of the Dead".

Now it looks like it's back to the city I guess

...

The movie have no direct correlation to each other. Period. With the exception of Day of the Dead and Day of the Dead Contagium, which are supposed to be linked.

They all have similar premises, but they do not take place int he same "universe"

OFFICIAL:In NotLD (1968) The zombies were all killed off, it was appanently relatively isolated to the Pennsylvania area, and took place in the 60's

OFFICIAL:Dawn of the Dead took place in the 70's and had much different results. Humanity was apparently annihilated for the most part, with the excpetion being the few gangs and people holed up in safe places.

OFFICIAL:Day of the Dead took place in the 80's and was similar to Dawn of the Dead. Humanity was essentially gone, with more than 4 million zombies for every human. Shelters had been established to try to find a solution to the plague of zombies, but humanity lost.

UNOFFICIAL:NotLD (1990) similar to the '68 original.
UNOFFICIAL: Dawn of the Dead (2004) similar to the original

I''l hold my tongue on some things, but seriously, watch all the movies and tell me how they are connected.

Technically, it started with Night of the Living Dead, continued to Dawn..., then to Day..., so the fourth movie will be Twilight of the Dead. And that's a fact. ;)

When you say that it's online, do you mean that it's like an MMO, everyone in the same city trying to fight off zombies? Because that's mildly insanely incredibly awesome. Or if they put 5 of you in the same map in completely different places and made you try to find each other... Man, that would be incredible.

I've never actually played any of the Resident Evils or seen the movies, so I'm a little in the dark on that whole side of the video game spectrum. But that's what it's like?

Anyways, for those who care, I saw Land of the Dead and it rocked.

Technically you could say the Final Fantasy games are continuations of each other, but they aren't. Same with these, they just are not continuations of the same story.

Technically, Final Fantasy X-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy X. So there. :D

Anyway, Resident Evil started with some people getting killed outside a town called Raccoon City. Some people from the Special Tactics And Rescue Squad (STARS for short) entered a mansion just outside the town to investigate, and found lots of zombies, strange monsters and a lot of trouble. You control Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine and need to solve the mysteries.

Resident Evil 2 had Claire Redfield come to Raccoon City to search for her mission brother (Chris Redfield from RE1). She met Leon Kennedy, who was a new cop starting his first day in the Raccoon City PD. (and you thought your first day at work was bad?) :lol Seems whatever caused the zombies had spread throughout the entire city, so here we go again. It's by far the best game in the series.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis sees Jill Valentine (yep, from the first game) fighting her way out of Raccoon City. Someone from *ahem* comes to clean up the mess, and the entire thing ends up in massive mayhem and chaos. Just the way we want it.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica (on Dreamcast, or Code: Veronica X on PS2) is all about Claire Redfield, still trying to find her brother. Some people just don't give up! :lol Rather boring game, and can be confusing since it wasn't called RE4.

Then there was Resident Evil: Zero on the Cube. As you learn in RE1, your team wasn't the first one to enter the mansion. This team was, and here are their story. Never played it since it's on the Cube.

Resident Evil: Outbreak (and RE: Outbreak File 2) (called RE: Online in the US) goes back to the beginning when the virus spread through Raccoon City. Only a few people survived, and this is their story. The fun part is this time you can work together with friends to battle your way out. It's brilliant, but don't bother going in single player.

Finally, Resident Evil 4. Leon Kennedy are sent to a remote town somewhere to rescue a young girl, and of course things doesn't exactly go as plannen. I'm not sure why this is called RE4 (as Claire starred in Code: Veronica X), and technically it doesn't even have anything to do with Resident Evil. It's a new town, no zombies and just a lot of shooting. I'm not saying it's a bad game, only that it's not a Resi-ish game.

All the Resi games (except Outbreak and Resi 4) have a fixed camera, so it looks a bit like you're looking through a security camera. You are usually on your own, but can team up with a new character at some point. The two first ones have two different characters, each with a different story line. And just to tell you how great Resi 2 is (even if it's on PS1), both characters have a normal story. But beat the game with Leon, and Claire's story will be a lot longer than usual. The same goes with her. Beat her story, and Leon's story will be even longer.

Notice how I've left out too many spoilers. If you still don't know Resident Evil, I suggest you go give it a try.

As for the movies, don't bother. They are a piece of junk. To be short, Nemesis is the main bad guy in Resi 3. (you can't even kill him until the end, and even then it's optional). In the second movie, Nemesis saved the main characters? Uh.... right.
