City of the Dead

Figured I'd post this in several forums...

City of the Dead, a game based on George Romero's Of the Dead universe but not following any of the particular movies, is due out sometime for Xbox, PS2, and PC. March 31, 2006 is the estimate, which sucks. Anyways, too lazy to post the details now, but lemme put it in a nutshell.

-Online and split screen co-op
-Tons of Zombies-only zombies, only former humans (no stupid mutant monkey dog demons)
-Little story other than zombies have taken over the world, you choose 1 of 5 people (including Tom Savini!) to try to survive the hordes of the undead. Characters appearances are dynamic and have different, and changing, stats.
-None of Resident Evils patented retarded get the 40 keys spread all over places you've already been to open the wooden door instead of shooting the dumb lock puzzles.
-Awesome physics, ragdoll too, use the environment to kill and slow down the zombie hordes.
-Free raoming, not objective based gameplay. No areas need to be unlocked.
-Supposed to be other survivors you can meet and save.
-Co-op has a cool feature, the infection meter. Once it is full, the palyer becomes a zombie, and can kill other players (can't wait to see how it works) ala RE:Outbreak.
-Others can see your infection meter, meaning they can let you live and take help as long as possible or kill you to save their skin.
-Weapons announced-Pistol, Shotgun, Machine gun, and Sniper Rifle.
-Weapons are upgradable, at least for melee attacks (Example: Shotgun gets a shovel attachment, pistols get spiked brass knuckles)
-Locations include, as of now, a city (duh), a mall, an airport, a laboratory, a hospital, a gas station, and a farmhouse style area?

Also, with a release date so far in the future, graphics are sure to improve, and I'm sure more game modes will be added. Maybe a FFA survival fest? Or a take as many down with you as you can gametype? Who knows? All I can say is I'm pyshced for this game beyond belief.

I may update this alter, if there is interest.

speaking from the perspective of loving zombie movies and still enjoy playing bother RE: outbreaks, if it plays at all as good as outbreak, i'm sold already

Speaking as one who really loved Night of the Living Dead and hated Dawn and Day, I hate it. NotLD (can't believe I used the short form for this awesome movie) have three things that make it particullar interesting. Four, if you count "They're coming for you, Barbara". ;) First of all, it's black and white. Although this normally means it looks like crap; this time it means you'll get all the gore you could want, and it looks better than in color. Second, parts of the movie where you see zombies eating body parts are shot with a handheld camera to make it looks more realistic. Third, everyone died. How can you make a game where the player dies in the end? All he did seems to be for nothing.

As a person who loves games, I still hate it. First, no story? Then what's the point in player? Second, you said you have a free roaming city, but what's the point if there's nothing to do there? If I wanted a dead city, I'll just walk around my town on a Sunday. At least I'll get exercize. Third, only humanoid zombies? So basically we have a game with just one enemy? No thanks.

I'm not saying this is a bad idea, but I'm very skeptical. The Lady has spoken. ;)

how do you hate the other romero movies? the only one i didn't care for was the one with the having to burn the remains zombies b/c their limbs still moved after being cut off.
they'll be more than just survive for a period of time, there has to be. otherwise, go upstairs, destroy stairs
make no mistake, you want hard, zombies are it. in the RE series, nothing is more annoying than the zombies

Well, Night... was a great horror movie. Day... turned into a comedy. A bunch of bikers throw pies at the zombies? No thanks. And for that matter, the only main woman in the movie was pregnant, and you still had sex? Uh... :?

That was Dawn of the Dead, Day had no such pie throwing :)

But, there will be more than one enemy. How many games are there with only human enemies? You are being far too broad. I forgot the exact details, but the zombies will have different styles of attacking. The city is not the only area in the game, as stated in my first post. How long you are in the city nobody knows (yet)

But no story? And only zombies? I want this game to work, don't get me wrong, but I just have doubts. Like Ultimate Spider-Man. It's the game Spider-Man 2 should have been, but looks aweful. Can we sacrifice the looks and still get a good game these days? :?
