This is my story.... and you're not part of it.
Here's the deal. My computer is not loading windows at all and i always get a blue screen telling me to restart or to do a system restore and i have done both numerous times. It freezes up every time and the only time i can get online is in safe mode... idk what else i can do. It was fine when i went to work and when i came back it had shut itself down so i restarted it and this happened...

Here's the only thing I can think of:

Boot into safe mode as before. Go into your control panel and dig up the System Restore. The computer makes a new restore point every couple days IIRC. So pick one that happened before the crash.

i did.. and it didnt work

if your using xp, boot the disk instead of windows then either choose the setup xp option which will detect xp then it should give you the option to repair windows, or just format your hdd an re-install windows

i recommend doing the repair option first so you shold be able to get into windows (as this wont format your pc) then back up your files, after formating your pc, install windows again then put the files you backed up back on

then i would lose all my stuff then wouldnt i?

If you just reinstall windows itself without reformatting your hd, it won't delete all your data. I used to have to do it quite often before I got a new copy of windows XP for... various reasons...

If it keeps saying that it can't (without giving you any real good reason) then whatever virus you caught has infected your system restore points. You're just going to have to reformat now.

Re-format =/= system restore.

Re-format means to wipe your hard-drive and start from scratch.

Provided you have your own activation key, yes, you could.

Though it makes me question about what happened to your CD...

Maybe Windows ate it like it does everything else

If u went with XP u only need the CD for the inst and not have to worry about pesky activation codes

Mr. Do Gooder?

Yea, I'm such an awesome goody-two-shoes, with those 8 pirated games on my computer. ::)

The point still stands though. As long as you have your own key, yes you can borrow a CD.

my bad, your message seemed to me like it was shaming me for using someone elses. I still need to find an xp cd tho
