Condemned: Criminal Origins

Just finished playing the demo for this game, so sweet, lots of bludgeoning transients with objects not primarily designated as weapons (a.k.a "die hobo junkie at the hand of my rustily nailed 2x4!"). I'm gonna get myself a copy for PC, methinks. Anyone played the full game? How is it? Demo is here: http://www.condemnedgame.com/

Wow. That was fun. A little frightening at times, (or irritating, when you can't see what you're doing because of the camera swing), but I haven't played a good first-person hack&slash in a while. (I found a fire axe, and never even switched to 'tazer' again.)

Fun.

I wasn't all too impressed. The graphics seem slightly dated (even at full settings) and the game seemed poorly optimized. I felt the controls were slightly clunky and could have been revised.

I did like the short load times though, and the whole forensics thing was pretty interesting to implement in a game.

I must admit that slaughtering criminals with a pistol and a pipe from the wall was amusing, however, I do not forsee myself purchasing such a game.

I didn't think it was that bad graphics, honestly. Oblivion's were certainately better, (depth of field, anyone?) but this one was certainately enjoyable. It is fairly inefficient, though. I still prefer its melee combat's to oblivions just for the weirdness of holding a pipe instead of a sword.

I picked up a copy of Condemned, I didn't realize that it'd been out for the 360 for a while. It's SO good, if you are into the dark, gritty, scary as hell vibe. It's made on the FEAR engine, too, so yeah, quality gameplay, not just sick graphics (yo, it's made for HDTV... graphics is excellent on the right system). My favorite moment so far was when I tore a locker door off its hinges and bashed a junkie hobo to death with it. Got out a lot of high school angst in that moment.

Too bad my computer is more powerful than an Xbox 360 then, eh? And running on better than an HDTV as well? Yeah, the graphics still weren't up to par and it was horribly optimized.

it was horribly optimized.
Yeah. It's not particularly easy to change software to work on PC when it's been designed to work on consoles, but I still think they could have done a bit better job making it not LAG on computers without the latest graphics cards. Mine runs it fine, but my friend's never been able to play it because he gets around 3 FPS.

Still, I'm glad they ported it to PC, because I have *no* intent to ever buy a 360.

Welcome to the forums tsugi! Hope you like it here. :)

If you need anything, feel free to PM me or anyone else here.

I wish Condemned came out for the regular Xbox as well. :'(

I never really liked the whole "mysterious, dark, gory, kill everything you see" type of games. eh
It is that. At times, though, it's more of a question of adrenaline rush than anything else - i've gotten that in doom before, but in this it's a little more potent because you're actually in the face of the people you're trying to keep from killing you :P

You know, me either, but I loved Condemned. I think for me the "using random stuff as a weapon" clinched it. I like melee first-person a lot.

It's really repetitive, the designers through some csi type stuff in there to shake things up a little bit, but it's still repetetive. Coolest looking survival horror game I've played in a long time though. The controls are ok at best, and the achievements are impossible to get them all going through the game just once. I liked it, wouldn't recommend buying it because you can rent it once or twice and beat it, but it's good.

Yeah, I've done it. It just opens some files that explain some interesting stuff about the hero and extend the plot a bit. They also hint at a sequel.
