I kind of want to change my vote. I'm fine with console debates as long as they are just that: debates. When it starts degrading to bashing or personal attacks, that's tiresome.

Console wars are one of those things that like from time to time and then bored with. This 3 way console war doesn't mean that much to me anyways my first gaming choice is still PC.

No there is actually some discouragement towards consoles (PS3 mostly). I already know about people recommending other consoles. That's not what I'm talking about because that's OK.

There's only one reason I won't get a PS3, for now, and that's a lack of games that I care about. There are two games right now that I will want on the PS3 that I can't get for any other system. I'm sure there will be more eventually.

I have no bias.

It was tiresome 8 years ago, so that hasn't changed a whole lot. The only "war" that exists is between the 3 big companies trying to outsell eachother, why normal customers feel that they're a part of this "war" and have to choose sides is testament to what a sad World we now live in. Just enjoy whatever systems/games you wanna enjoy, that's always been my perspective.

Absolute truth Retro.

That's what people do do. >_> You pretty much just said it's pointless to like one system more than another, then said enjoy whatever ones you want.

But what if you can only afford one system, and the games you enjoy appear on two of the systems? What if you bought a system because you thought the games you'd enjoy would be on it, but it turns out the games you want to be playing are on another system?

Unless you have the money to purchase all three (I know a lot of people here do, but this was never the case the for me, and it still isn't) you do have to rationalize what is more important to you. To do that you have to compare and contrast each of the big three's offerings. It doesn't really have anything to do with sales, although they can be used as benchmarks for success, it's just about making a choice based on limited information, and using hindsight and logic to either validate or criticize that decision.

But even beyond that it is interesting to understand what you, as a gamer, want and enjoy. Because the big three have differentiated themselves from one another in certain areas, it is important to figure out what you expect from a console developer and a game developer. The term console "war" might not apply to this, but I think it is a higher evolution of console war threads. Objectively assessing the big players of an industry is something that occurs in every industry by those who feel they have a vested interest in it, whether financial or otherwards. There's no reason this can't or shouldn't happen in the videogame industry, but there's also no reason it has to turn into something trivial and asinine. There is a way to intelligently discuss the business strategies of the company, which is the most successful, and which one you personally think is headed in the best direction and provides the best experience for you. It just generally isn't done so across anonymous forums that span the internet. :lol

You guys missed my point completely. I'm not talking about preference, as I favour certain consoles over other ones too. I'm talking about people who feel that they have to choose ONE side and "fight" in the corner of either Nintendo, Microsoft or Sony instead of going my route and enjoying whatever appeals to them. Like I said, there's really is no war here between us, the average customer. That's why it's become tiresome to me.

I've tried that route before. Alot of people fail to understand that logic though.

Who actually feels that?

Apparently most the people on this site. This may feel like kicking a dead horse, but I have all three systems and have found each one to have a very different and fun feel to them, along with games on each console that I love. Now, when you talk to someone who doesn't have all three, they tend to put the one or two that they don't have down because of sales numbers/games/hardware/etc. It's really not that hard to enjoy what you like playing and respect other people's ideas on what makes them happy.

I.E. When members come in here and ask about a game, and just because some people don't like it, they say "terrible" or something to that effect and don't answer the question. The same can be said about consoles in this forum.

I have yet to meet anyone(Hines is getting close, though) who says you should totally ignore a console forever. This early in the war, it comes down to what games each console has, and at this point, certain consoles don't have games for certain people.

I never said anyone was saying stay away from a console forever. But, people on this site do put down consoles for various reasons. I don't really see it as a war, anyways. We're just the consumer. This effects us in no way.

"but sales = better games"...each console is getting great games, and alot of them before the "war" is over. Even if it does carry over to the next generation of gaming, each system is still going to get great games.

Well, they're still just liking one console more than another. And when buying a console, I'd prefer not waiting a while for games I want to play, so there's nothing wrong with saying a console doesn't have that good of games now. For me, the PS3 has only two games I want, and that isn't nearly enough to pay $500 for, so I'm not going to go around saying that the PS3 might be good in a few years, I'm going to say it isn't that good now.

And I would respect the person's decision to purchase one. The games don't matter to me. If I didn't want a console, I wouldn't buy it. I bought it because of the games, and you didn't because...well..money..and games I guess.

Who's not respecting a person's decision to buy one? People ask for other people's opinions, so they get their opinions. And if you didn't want a console, you wouldn't buy it? Ok...and? That was just kinda thrown in there. And the games should matter, it's kinda an important part of game consoles.

I think when it comes to consoles, it is really a matter of ones personal taste in gaming. As a gamer I have really never understood someone jumping on a bandwagon of touting a certain system over another. I have always looked at it from the “games rather than the system” perspective. So I guess I always have avoided the console war debates. Sooner or later I somehow end up with the systems that interest me game wise. They may be sell outs or used. Money is a factor for me, so I wait for prices to drop. There have been those occasions that certain games have tempted me and I have left my senses forking out money for a new console to play that game. But usually I try to wait it out. A console has to have enough games that spark my interest to justify my purchase. I am not into the “most powerful console” or “the greatest graphics” excitement thing. Games that I enjoy playing is what I am interested in, and that can be on anything from an early Atari system to a SNES, Jaguar, Wii, PS2, or whatever. The name brand is not what I am looking for. And you might have guessed that I have yet to enter this next generation of gaming. I have been looking. The only thing that Has caught my eye lately is NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. 8)
